Asus A7n8x Dead Bios?

Recommended Posts

I got a new ASUS A7V8X a few day ago, this mobo was TWICE dead on arrival and was RMA'ed, this was the usual boot problems with the fans spinning & no POST/Video etc. The third board is OK & is happily running a 2500 Barton @ 2.21 GHz.

The point of all this? I was browsing ASUS's website & noticed the article pasted below that was specced with the 64bit K8V, this indicates that ASUS are well aware of the BIOS problem with the previous A7N8X (Nforce2) series BIOS'es & have taken steps to reduce their RMA's, So does this mean that ASUS knew about the problems before the A7N8X went on sale, because it seems to me, that they have not really had very long to design the "crashfree" BIOS that is availiable on theK8V ( unless they already knew & were working on a solution), any opinions on this guys?

"ASUS CrashFree BIOS2

The CrashFree BIOS 2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in a support CD. Users can reboot their system through the support CD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process. ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an optional ROM"

This is all too true. Heres some of the threads were i and others have had problems. here here here.

That hole bios recovery thing sounds real nice and all. But how exactly do you think Im gonna get the cd to boot a bios cd when the computer wont even post?

And i do think that ASUS has a bigger problem on their hands than they are willing to admit. It sure is a pain in the arse, but thats what happens when a company releases a faulty product.

I had that problem too.

I burnt the board instead of the crap CPU. Its a good thing I did it within 7 days of buting it. The store gave me a new board.

Basically, crap not with the memory timings. Up the FSB all you want but don't do anything stupid with the memory :D

i also had the problem, and had to send in my bios chip (not the board), and everything's been working fine now. Obviously they do have a problem, and yeah, they're aware of it. I doubt they really knew how big a problem it was when they first released the boards. You say that "they have not really had very long to design the "crashfree" BIOS that is availiable on theK8V ", but that's not true. I got my a7n8x deluxe board back in february. That's at least 6-7 months they had to work on the problem.
