Brutuskend Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 SO I just built up a new computer with this board and upon start up I get a long beep followed by silence and then another long beep. No post of course. According to DFI's site there are only two beep codes that will happen. One long beep followed by two short beeps (No video) and one long beep indicating a RAM problem. I tried taking the ram out of the first two slots and installing into 2 & 3, same error, so I tried another single stick 256 PC 2700 instead of the two sticks of 512 DDR400 (corsair) same error, so I tried it with NO memory, same thing.... Anyone out there that has one of these boards that might have a suggestion as to what may be wrong? I bought the CPU off of Ebay so I suppose it COULD be bad, would that possibly give me this beep code error? T.I.A.
thefabe Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 As far as i remember a long beep means video card not powered or not seated properly
Brutuskend Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Thanks I'll try another video card. Actually the one in my sig is NOT in this build yet, just some crappy old AGP card I had laying around. Maybe I'll give one of my PCI cards a try and see what happens. Right now I'm trying a prolonged CMOS clearing to see if that has any effect. Thanks for the reply BTW! smolt Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Check out the link under my sig ( thing new NF3 250 needs to know )
Brutuskend Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Thanks, I'll do that. After clearing the CMOS for WELL over 8 hours and then trying a PCI video card, I'm still getting the same results. EDIT: As I bought this board used, I have no idea WHAT bios I have loaded in it. I realize that DFI doesn't officially support the Mobile CPU's, but hey, I can still ask for help right? I didn't remove the battery when I tried clearing the CMOS, I will try that next....
Formula1 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Did you try the 9800 pro card you have? THe current BIOS version of the board you have could be whats preventing your pc from posting..
Brutuskend Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Yeah the guy I bought it from suggested that as well. Know of anyone one here that would be willing to hot flash it for me, or anywhere I could get a updated ROM with a newer bios flashed to it? Edit: I DID try another AGP card in it and I no longer get the beeps, but it still won't post however.
e268 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Read one of the stickies by Angry where he detailed the bios flashing procedures. It is quite easy. Did you supply power to the 9800? I think it has its own connector.
Brutuskend Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 It's possible to flash a BIOS with out having the computer POST?!? I have been trying different Video cards, so I don't believe it's a video card problem.
Brutuskend Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Tried my old ATI 8500 and it still doesn't work so I'm thinking it's the BIOS. Can you order BIOS chips from DFI with the latest (or greatest) BIOS flashed to it?
e268 Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 You can search. There is a guy who can do it for you, or you can ask Angry to buy one. But, before you do that, take everything out of the case, just put in a stick of good ram in slot 1, one video card. If you get one short beep, the bios is good. Hit delete key and keep it pressed down and see if you can get into bios. According the dfi site, a constant beep is either vid card or psu. Have you tried another psu? Brutuskend Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 It's a brand new P/S so I doubt that's the trouble. I'm inclined to believe it's either the BIOS or the CPU is bad. Maybe i'll try a bench build with the one other M/B I have that's socket 754 (though I don't know for sure if THAT board even works...)
