myndreach Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I have the DFI lanpary nforce3 UT 250gb moboard, and have 1 stick of ddr400 corsair value select ram in slot 1. I can't get the other sticks I have (512 sticks) to be recognized. That's in another thread. My main question here is that if I get another 1 gig stick of ddr400 corsair value select, and put it in slot2, will it be recognized or is going up to 2 gigs just not an option on this board? No configurations I can use can get it to recognize more than 1 gig. I have 1 gig stick, and 2 512 sticks. Thanks in advance.
Fum Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Did you ever find those memory timings and adjust them? link to prior post the board will take 2gb of ram, just not in the configuration you've got.
myndreach Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 yes but i am new to ram settings, so I'm not sure what to set to those values. I PMd the person that told me that, but wasn't sure about the response. he said to set to 3/4/4/8 I asked what do I set to that value? He replied "there the first ones under cpc then3 -3 -8-3 just like that" 3-3-8-3? i thought it was 3-4-4-8? im thoroughly confused... my main question, hence the new thread, is if I can run 2 1 gig sticks in the mobo without having to mess with memory settings. Fum Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Yes, two 1GB sticks will work just like your two 512MB sticks work.
myndreach Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 sweet thank you i wasn't aware the sticks had to be the same sizes, i just thought the same type was all that was required is that normal on most boards, or just this one, or on the nforce3 chip? Maarek_Stele Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Different sticks can be a PITA no mather their size. As an example, for my old 754 kv8-max I bought two adata 512 sticks individually but with some bios only one would be detected, or when it could see 1gb, I had to set a ddr333 divider for stability, no matter which timmings. By replacing one of the sticks with another oem one from the same pack, but which had the exact same codes on chips, I could properly use them and even overclock a lot for their grade. Most times, buying DC packs is the best option, even for these single channel boards.

frosty15 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 If you're going to buy 2x1024mb don't get Value ram, get the best you can afford but value ram in a DFI is like 4-star in a Ferrari they're not built to go together.

myndreach Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 GSKill. why is the GSkill better than the OCZ or the Mushkin? It's cheaper, yeah, but I see Angrygames recommends the OCZ, and many recommend the Mushkin. I also wonder because GSkill isn't listed on the FAQ about the UT 250gb board. any of those RAMs will work without messing with BIOS also, right? I also need a tutorial on RAM timings, etc. with the very basics. I want to learn, but that's something I've never messed with really too much.
