Kilonga Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Hi, I purchased a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR about 10 months ago and installed a Venice Athlon64 3200+. I slowly started to overclock it until I reached 2.6Ghz (stable for 24hours of prime). This lasted a few months and then suddenly I started getting BSOD and Prime failing only after minutes. Slowly again started to adjust the overclock but no matter how slow I went I still got BSOD and prime failing. So I accepted the fact that my processor was fried due to the overclocking and bought a new processor. This time a brande new Opteron 165. I installed the Opty yesterday and at default speed I get a BSOD. I decided to install Windows XP from scratch thinking that maybe going from a Venice to an Opteron could cause some issues. Also tried different BIOSes and always default settings. I didn't get any new BSOD but Prime fails after less than 90 minutes. Now I am thinking could it be the motherboard? How can I tell for sure? I am returning the Opteron 165 based on the fact that without any overclock it started to fail..... but I am thinking the Opteron and even maybe the Venice might no be the problem. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!
Lackadaisical Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 It might be the memory. Try doing some testing with only 1 stick and see what happens.
blick Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Can you try it with another PSU?
joncrap Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 sounds like a RAM issue to me, but random crashes could be most anything
Kilonga Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I forgot to tell you that I ran over 24 hours of memtest86+ and it doesn't find any problems. The computer sometimes works fine for days when not overclocked but as soon as you play some games or run prime chances are it will either fail or BSOD.
