Green Addiction Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Hi, im from Portuga and its my first post in this great forum. I have the rig on the signature and i must say this Expert board is leaving me a bit confused about oc temps at 2.8ghz idle at 18ºc and priming at 24º the most, my ambient temp is about 26ºc its strange. Im still using the original Bios I have no issues, do you think i must go for a better bios? Also Im still usin the Smart Guardian from the cd that came with the board. Ty for the help and sorry for my Bad English.
Likwid Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 The general consensus is that the Expert reports CPU temps about 9º or 10ºc too low. With MBM5 you can add a 9º compensator to get closer to actual. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...52&page=1&pp=
ICON57 Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 you really cant use software to moniter your temps... your temps seem to be reporting very low...what does it say in the bios...same? i would upgrade to the newer bios... and...welcome to the street....very nice rig!!
palehorse Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 mine reports 16-17C low... and there is nothing that can be done about it except these four options: 1) DFI releases a magical BIOS update that somehow fixes the faulty readings. 2) Research the thermal resistance values for whatever cooling solution you have. (Take the worst-case (highest). ie, if the range for your HS is .13-.7, then use .13 for your math) Then, using the thermal resistance formulas for CPU's, calculate your true temperature deltas to within +/- 2C or so. next, take this new temperate change and set it in MBM5 as a manual offset. 3) Use manual probes to try to get as close as humanly possible to the core of your chip. This reading will not likely be any more or less accurate than option 2 above. 4) RMA your board and pray for one that works in return... there is no other solution for this problem. this is a known issue, and DFI has claimed for months to be working on a fix. I used both #2 and #3 above to determine that mine is roughly 16-17C low. GL!
Green Addiction Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Ty all for the quick reply, Icon, shal I use the latest Bios update from DFI site? About temps i guess everyone is having this kind of issue with this board, man overclocking this way is like playing russian rolete with a cannon  . I've just installed the latest smartguardian and the temp reports are the same, im not going to RMA this board cause i love it and it is not giving me overclocking problems ,not to mention the hard work to disasemble this rig , its like a chinese puzlle .
