BSOD if I change VGA drivers

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with NVidia ForceWare drivers.

My rig is on sig. and I am using the 81.98 WHQL drivers. The problem is that if I try to install ANY other set of drivers (including the last WHQL 84.21) I get a BSOD whenever I launch 3dmark or another 3d application.

I tryed almost every other driver release (every time I used driver cleaner to remove previous versions) and each one gives the exat same problem. This sounds suspicious also considering that i havent heard anyone else having this kind of problems with the latest 84.21.

I'm using the 704BT-a BIOS on mobo and the 6.85 NForce chipset drivers.

I really would like to install the latest 84.21 bcause they improve performance with some games and add full VSync support for Direct3D.

Please help if you can.

My uninstall steps were:

1) Unplug network cable.

2) Uninstall current drivers via control panel add/remove apps menu.

3) Reboot in safe mode.

4) Run cab cleaner and driver cleaner.

5) Reboot and install new drivers.

Anyway i will try what you suggest and report later...

thanks for your interest.

you Deleted file “nv4_disp.dll? (resolved my issues)

From your sig are you running sli? (then your issue was diff. then mine)

if so you should flash with identical bios (from what ive heard)

since its a nv4_disp.dll bsod error its def. something with your cards ( driver or config)

So u running sli? and if so was this an issue pre sli?

yes i did

yes i'm running SLI but i also tryed to run 3dmark in single gpu mode and the problem persist.

Anyway with 81.98 no crashes even in SLI mode.

i might try to flash one card's BIOS to make sure they are identical but, i mean, since i had no problems with 81.98 i thought that shouldn't be an issue with newer versions.

I red that thread from the nvidia forums and also tryed that pach they mention but the problem is still there. Mah.. maybe it has smth to do with bios settings (memory timings).

In the end I am forced to keep 81.98.

Thanks for your help anyway.
