eVGA Geforce 7800 GTX KO Water cooling

Has anyone endured throwing a water block on the gpu of this card.

eVGA Geforce 7800 GTX KO (the one encased in black)

I have yet to even pop the cover of from mine but was considering water cooling my cpu and 2 vid cards.

If so, what are you using for a block and how do you like it. I need something

that will fit my SLI config.

The heat from my v cards is cranking my chipset temp up and was hoping that pulling some heat from the gpus and eliminating the fans blowing toward the back of the cards would change things.

The casing actually comes off pretty easy. Once you make sure all the screws are out just gently start pulling it apart, working at each end alternatively.

As for waterbolcks, definitely check out [link]dangerden.com[/link], lots of good stuff. You can get either a full block that covers the core and memory modules, or just one that covers the core. Both come on Sli versions as well. I've had their full-coverage block for both the 7800GTX and an X1800Xl and they are very, very well made, can't go wrong. :)

I have a Swiftech MCW-55 VGA block on my 7800GTX and I love it. Load temps barely crest 30C. I also have copper RAM sinks on both sides of the card with a 90mm fan blowing across them. 515/1400MHz is no problem for this card. Here's a few pics:

The only downside is this block takes 3/8"ID tubing, something to consider if the rest of your system is 1/2"ID. I used a distribution block so tubing size didn't matter.

How did you get 1400 on your eVGA? I get to 1374, and get a message saying driver is not okay with that setting.

I can get up to 530ish, and get same message.

Card runs 43C at load with the NV5, I think I could get more out of it, just not sure where I am going wrong. I used Rivatuner and no Hardware mods, unless you count the NV5.

sorry don't mean to steal the thread, but we are discussing 7800 GTX's :-P

Yup like everybody says Danger Den is the place to go! However I don't agree with using the Danger Den full blocks because of their weight (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?...89&cat=0&page=1)

I ran a 6800gt SLI set up for about a year and noticed that a after a while the blocks started hanging down of the PCB making bad contact to the ram ic’s. However the overclock with this block was very good I have to say. I personally upgraded to 7900gtx and bought the Danger Den Maze 4 Acetal block (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?...61&cat=0&page=1) with some OCZ Ramsinks as well as the 3D fan kit to cool it (http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/log...fan/index.shtml) Curently I’m selling one of the Maze 4 Acetal blocks which I bought because I want to go Peltier a need the cold plate set up. See here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46169 if you interested give me a PM.

Thanks

I just use coolbits. Set it to 1400, click "test settings" and it passes. Auto-detect usually gives me around 490/1300.

phelan1777 , it's all good. I'm actually afraid to even clock this card.....I guess I just got a bad one out of the box, but as soon as I tried to jump it up a few mhz it failed and I had to RMA it. Maybe it was just bad timing and the card was about to fail anyway.

after having 1k wrapped up in sli, I'm a little nervous to OC the reasonably fast card.

Sounds like I'm gonna have me a danger den sli water block setup next week. thanks all.

My big question is, can you use the maze block and the factory ram sinks or is it part of the casing ?

As far as I understand you can use the original ram sink with the maze 4. I remember reading something about it. I'll find out on Tuesday when my maze 4 arrives and I will install it. I ordered some OCZ bfg heatsinks as well in case it will not work with the original heatsink. :shake:
