refm29 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I'am new to dfi mobos so be easy on me, my problems is cant get my sata 2nd generation drive to boot into windows as a primary drive, i want to make my 160gb eide drive as a back up with no windows install on it, when i first hook up the sata drive i install winxp, hit f6, install the drivers off the floppy, for both controllers, evevything was fine, but after winxp was done installing and rebooted i got a blue screen error, um still clue less to why that happen, so i install windows on the 160gb drive, with no problems at all, it found my sata drive and install the drivers np, but the funny thing is when i reboot, it wont go back into windows unless i have my windows xp cd in the drive, all i want to do is make my sata the primary drive
CPDMF Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hook up the sata and disconnect the IDE drive. Install windows without the F6 drivers, those are only needed if you are running a RAID array. Plug the IDE drive back in after your all set up and then format it and change the drive letter.

Fum Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Once you do that your sata drive will be the only one with an os on it, hence, your primary.

CPDMF Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Leave the jumper on the IDE as master if that is where it is on the cable. You would want to set your SATA as first boot hard drive under advanced bios options.
