Behemoth Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hello, today I had a great overclock with my opty 170 hitting 2.9ghz, only problem was my ram divider was on the lowest it can go. When i try to change the divider to anything windows doesnt boot. I ran prime95 for 3hrs and got no errors at 2.9ghz but it seems my opty doesnt run on any dividers (i tried em all) heres my settings: Multi = 10 ldt = 3 vcore is 1.5v ram = 3.4v FSB = 290 please someone help me get my overclock to work. Thanks

Thanks 3.4v to your ram? wow that is high hope you have active cooling on those sticks. Do this... run a benchmark with your cpu at 2.9 and lowest divider, then bring your divider up and your cpu down and see which one gives you better results. lulu Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 do try clocking at CL 2.5. some sticks (especially the samsung tccd, tcc5 and uccc) clock much much better with CL 2.5 rather than CL2, and even looser latencies like CL

Hi there, the dividers only work once i get down to 2.7 but anything above that the divders dont seem to work. When its at 2.7 it wont prime stable due to the ram but if the ram is on the lowest divider it will prime stable, I just dont get why putting it on a divder makes it unstable when ive successfully ran it at 260mhz and the divider is lowering it to lower than that. thanks. Behemoth Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Hi, what ive decided to do is buy some ddr600 ram so i can run it at 1:1 and that should work. I also primed it last night for 10 hours at 2.9ghz and on the 1:2 divider so hopefully this new ram does the trick, if so i will be one happy person
HanzoRazor Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Play with the ram timings. For whatever reason mine wouldnt boot to windows on a divider/OC until I switched one unoticable setting. DIdn't matter what the other ram settings were either.... But I changed max premnble from Auto/5.5/ to 6 and finally got it to boot into xp and be stable for 18+ hours in prime95. It took me hours to figure that one out....
twivel Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I had the same problem with my opteron [email protected]. Identical actually. But Mine wouldn't completely post (It would reboot when it got to verifying DMI data). My suspicion is that this is an indication that the memory controller is nearing it's limits, but that's just a guess. In my case, it wouldn't work with any dividers except 7/10 and 1/2. All the inbetween ones didn't work, nor did using CAS2.5!!
son1 Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 hey, I've got the same ram as you, the GeIL pc4000, the timings are rated at 2.5-4-4-7 I believe at ddr500. I've got an opty165, its currently 12 hours prime stable at the following settings: htt 280x9(2.520g), ldt x3, vcore 1.425 (1.39v CPU-z & Smart Guardian), mem divider 9/10 running at 252mhz with 2.7vdim, so DDR504, my timings are set at the rated 2.5-4-4-7. I've read some reviews and such after buying the RAM, apparently these won't go for much past 250htt, 255 if you're lucky. With those settings above I ran memtest86+ from the board's Bios(6/23) and got like 2 errors over 10hours, and I think I'm willing to live with that heh. Also I found out that these seem to have Hynix chips and apparently don't work well with AMDs/DFI.
Behemoth Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Thanks son1 for those timings it looks like it was just a matter of setting the right ram timings. At the moment im running at 2.9ghz with ram on a divider and the ram is running at 240mhz. Thanks heaps for all the help.
