Nuri Kenshin Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Hello, this is my first post here. I'll be building a new Rig in the next couple of weeks, so I thought I'd list what I'm planning on getting and see what you guys think. Well I guess I should say due to limited resources my plans are to build a mid-budget lan pc, that I could overclock to somewhat compete with stock high-end pcs. Heres the Line up: RAIDMAX X1 MidATX case Antec Smart Power 2.0 500W PSU DFI LANPARTY SLI-D mobo AMD Opteron 144 eVGA 7900GT N565 G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB PC4000 RAM As for cooling I was thinking of getting a Big Typhoon. Though I dont know if it would fit in this case, so if somone knows, it would be of great help. Hopefully in 2 weeks I'll have all the parts, so I'll keep everyone updated on the build. UncleDavid218 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 GeForce 7900 GT for the same money, better CPU, perhaps the 3700+ San Diego, that seems to be the sweet spot. People are getting them in the 2.7-2.8GHz range. Also you might want to reconsider that PSU. Is it on the list of recommended PSUs? Guest SuppA-SnipA Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 cpu is ok, video card is plenty or for a few bucks more you can go 7900 power supply ocz powerstream, check out the thermaltake venus 12 cpu heatsink, i got one and it dropped my temp by 10C
AMD Fanatic Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 The 3700+ is a very good suggestion of late. I picked mine up about a month ago from Newegg and it's running 3Ghz with no problem and almost getting 3.1Ghz..
Nuri Kenshin Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I dont know why I didn't notice it but the 7900GTs are pretty cheap, so I think I'll go with everyones sugestion on that. As for the 3700, I dont think I could afford it right now, but after awhile I'll probably upgrade.
Kandoo Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 7900gt is deffentally a better buy. Not to sure about that Antec, Do your home work on that. You might be able to buy a DFI ultra-d or Sli-dr mobo (both quality boards) and put the money you save into a better PSU or CPU. Just my take. Nuri Kenshin Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I allready got the PSU, but I did see it on the PSU List. I may get a opteron 144 instead, what does everyone think about that?
UncleDavid218 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 My friend has a 146 @ 2.8GHz 1.45v
Nuri Kenshin Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I would get a 146 but like I said I have limited funds, pretty much for the cpu my price limit is around $150.
