Killing_Halo Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Just to let you all know. I had previously owned a AC Silencer 5 for my 7800GT and it was fine just wanted to get another card for SLI and AC silencer 5 just wouldnt allow that so i got a zalman and while removing the Silencer the pads that stick to the ram really stick to the ram acually broke card while removing...Very pissed but evga is Accepting RMA. Anyhow just wanted to let you know im idleing about 39c with Vf700Cu and Silencer 5 was 42-43C and i was able to get 35 more Mhz out of the zalman on clock and 150Mhz more on Memory this could be due to differnet card but they are the exact same model form same manufaturer.. Just to let you all know i do recomend the Zalman VF700Cu over the Artic Cooling Silencer 5.. -KH
coldpack Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 interesting, i have the vf700. I wanna thank you for typing this up. I've always wondered how the 2 gpu coolers compare. Though, i do like the idea of silencer expelling the hot air immediately instead of recirculating it throughout your system. I just hope that zalman can produce better mem cooling for their gpu cooling setup

Nehil Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Well I like my Silencer more, it's quieter and cooler, also keeps the whole system cooler
danzgpgt97 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I actually had the opposite results. I had the fs-v7 and it hovered in the mid 40s while my NV5 stays in upper 30s and loads in the lower 60s.
Killing_Halo Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 the mempads broke the mems????????????? damn!...never heard of that problem. is that common or an isulated case? i was thinking of getting one for my GS. I thought the same thing. Just wanted to throw it out there. Maybe mine had some carzy butt sticky pads but yeah they puleed the alot off the info off the mem chips too... I'm not a newb at heat sinks vga coolers Etc. Any how just telling everyone what mine was doing.
Redbeaver Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I actually had the opposite results. I had the fs-v7 and it hovered in the mid 40s while my NV5 stays in upper 30s and loads in the lower 60s. all results really heavily dependent on ur case's airflow. my case is a btx-oriented, so its on the other side. thus the silencer's fan is facing upward not downward. so it sucks the warm air right from the chipset which is right above it, while the zalman, which is more centered in the core of the vga, is alittle farther from the chipset, so its temp abit lower. but the chipset's heat which used to get suck by the silencer is now just hovering around the area, and zalman's fan actually push the warm air BACK to the chipset since the Infinity chipset's opening is sideways. hard to describe without pic, but basically using silencer, i got the cool air from the front, come across the chipset and silencer, then half goes to the chipset then blown left/right. the left side got hit by the front intake so it went up. the right side got suck by the silencer, then blown thro the back. the other half of the front intake just went straight to the silencer. if using zalman, the air from the front intake and the circular airspin from the zalman crash right in the chipset area. bad. Mord Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Exactly, Redbeaver! I'm using the zalman on my 6800GT which, believe me is a lot hotter than your 7800's guys. Idles at 60, loads at 84!!! Stock heatsink was better - 55-75, but anbareable noise. I am willing to try the NV Silencer, and also watercooling. In fact I may skip the Silencer and take the WC. At least I'll save some time, not just hitting in the dark . I thought it's the software that's lying, but if I touch the "small pins" of the zalman I get burnt. Redbeaver Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 I'm waiting for the Zalman VF900-CU. its available already in ncix.com (canadian, but will send south of the border), but only 1 review in the net. im in the middle of stepping up to evga 7900GT. once i get it, i'll see what Arctic Cooling going to release to accomodate them, and if the stock heatsink is a noisy little punk or no if afte a few weeks, AC wont release new product, im sooo gonna get vf-900!
