SkunK Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Call me stupid if you want but last night I decided to buy an Ultra-D in spite of the fact that I have a Seasonic 600w and a Maxtor DiamondMax Sata2. I'll probably get the motherboard tomorrow and it probably will not work but I still "needed" to do it. It's the first time I buy a non-Asus motherboard ever since my Socket 7 Soyo. I'll either keep you posted or ask for help. Wish me luck?
Kakarot Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Works great with my seasonic (i think) lol maxtor and the nf4 chipset may be an issue... GL
boatasiaus Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 IMHO, the Ultra D is the easiest/most user friendly mobo in the DFI lineup. If I remember, the Seasonic 600W issue was resolved with version A2 of the PSU. If you have an earlier version, just contact them, and they will replace it The Maxtor issues, which some people have had requires a firmware fix. This issue is not just with DFI mobo's, but any using the NF4 chipset Follow these build guides Ed Jacobson’s Build Guide and Angry Games Build Guide with Pictures, and you should be fine Post back if you have any problems Edit for spelling
SkunK Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Well, My goal was to reach 10 x 280Mhz 1:1 1T and not only I'm there but I managed to lower memory timings too. On the crappy Asus A8R-MVP, I was doing 2.5-4-3-7 2T at 280Mhz and, with the Ultra-D, I'm at 2.5-3-3-7 1T which gave me a boost from 2378mb/s to 2806mb/s! I haven't done any prime95 test yet but I've passed Super Pi 32M twice just to make sure. Only (small) downside is that I find the chipset fan a little noisy when SmartGuardian is on and the chipset itself runs hotter (even with the fan) at 46 C compared to 34 C with the Asus (passively cooled). That brings one question for now: I run my comp with an under-privileged user and when I log on, I get an error message from SmartGuardian (which probably needs Admin rights to run). So I edited Windows registry to prevent SmartGuardian from trying to load at boot time. Is that risky?

Squid1 Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 As far as I followed thing, the Seasonic problems with DFI boards were not entirely solved in a new revision of the PSUs. But there are still plenty people happy with DFI and Seasonic so it's a luck thing.
