noct3rn4l Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 hey guys, i just got a 300gb SATA HDD and id like to use it for storage. im currently running windows on my WD 80gb IDE hd and the hd didnt come with any instructions (maxtor maxline3) my problem is, after i hook everything up it freezes at the WINDOWS XP loading screen. i have an enermax 600w noisetaker psu so i just one of those power wires ratherthan the one it came with and i plugged the yellow sata cable into the left sata port by the cpu. now i went into bios and enabled RAID but thats it and saved and restarted and its a no go, do i have to do something else in the raid menu in bios? Fum Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 You don't need to enable raid, you need to enable sata.
e268 Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Also, make sure you choose the right HDD as your boot drive (in BIOS)
Guest GripS Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Raid is only needed if you are running 2 matched SATA drives. Not necessary for a single SATA. I just plugged mine in and installed windows on it without installing anything else OR enabling anything in the bios.
noct3rn4l Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 as soon as i attach the SATA cable, my ide wont boot into windows and i cant get to the 2nd sata since the xp90 is in the way... Fum where do i enable the sata port? EDIT: simply overread "serial ata" enable/disable but it was already enabled. i also played with the wire a lil and was able to get it into the 2nd sata port, and also tried the other 2 ports on the bottom right, still not a go I just plugged mine in and installed windows on it without installing anything else OR enabling anything in the bios. im not trying to install windows on the SATA though, i want to use my existing windows installation (IDE) and just add the SATA as an extra 300gb of storage for movies, progs, etc

Fum Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Did you go back and disable raid? Keep sata enabled and make sure your boot order is correct. You should not have to pull out hair over an sata drive.

Fum Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 i cant get to the 2nd sata since the xp90 is in the way. I don't understand how you're not able to access your other SATA port? I have an XP90 too and I can assure you the heatsink isn't blocking anything. Are the heatpipes facing the vid card? Gimme a few, when my current dl finishes I will go have a look at what my settings are.
