Marvelle NIC in linux

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to the DFI-Street forums as you can tell (post count) so I figured I'd stop by, say hi, and ask a few questions.

My first question has to do with the Marvell NIC. I have my computer hooked up to a hub (along with 2 other computers) and I was first using the Marvell NIC when I installed Windows, and I didn't see a reason to use the nforce NIC for when i use linux (slackware-current). I've noticed something rather odd, when I boot up into linux and everything loads, the NIC and everything works as it should, and the lights on the nic are turned on and the lights on the corresponding port on the hub are also on and blinking (they're supposed to blink), but when I reboot my computer and load up windows the Marvell NIC doesn't work and neither of the lights (the ones on the nic its self or on the hub) are light up, and ofcourse the internet will not work. But when I reboot and load up linux again as soon as it runs DHCPCD the lights go on and the NIC works. I'm at a loss, I have no clue whats going on (the Nforce one works fine, so for now I've been plugging in that one while i use windows). I'd really like to know how I could fix that.

My next question is what are the CPU/SATA/PCIE Spread Spectrum settings in the bios and why is the CPU Spread Spectrum setting "greyed out"?

My next question is which after market cpu fan of these three do you suggest getting i wanna get a quiet aftermarket cpu cooler, this tt one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835106061 or this zalman one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835118223 or this zalman one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835118115 ? I'm leaning towards the third one because of the price, but if either of the others outpreform is by a lot or are noticably quieter i'm willing to spend the extra money.

And My last question I'm looking to get some ram and found this G.SKILL stuff http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231021 for the specs it seems to be priced too good. Are there any known issues with it, like lots of people having RMA's? $162 seems like a great deal for this ram, and it's even got an additional $18 mail in rebate, I'm just being a little cautious.

Thanks in advanced
