Crashing During Games

Recommended Posts

For some reason I am hoping just heat I am experiencing constant crashes dunring AOE III no Ram errors no BIOS errors the screen simply turns black and my monitor states that the signal is out of range. I have been monitoring the temps of my video cards and they are reaching 91C and 80C. I believe this is way too high for them to operate and thats the reason for my issues.....Any thoughts?

definatly agreed, the nvidia cards run cooler than the ATI cards and my x1900xt never hits 90 under load so your cards shouldnt be anywhere near those temps.

what cooling are you running in the case and on the cards?

awesome systems btw!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I was running a single XFX 7800 GTX with stock cooling and I was getting temps in the low 80's under load.

I suspect that the 2 cards are really piling on the heat hence the 'black outs' so you are left with trying to ensure a much better flow of cooler air over the cards and better extraction of the warm air out of your case.

The high temps I was having was one of the main reasons why I went for a water cooled option of the card via a DD Nv-78 and went from 80's under load down to low 40's.

Yeah I am using a Vantec Dual fan PCI card and I am probably going to mount a 120mm fan in the window to bring in cooler air to the cards...I have just played about 40min worth of Battle for Middle Earth II on ULTRA HIGH settings and no issues...I gues AOE III requires a lot more graphically than I originally thought...

this is a completely backwards approach to cooling your case. Sounds like the problem is that you already have too much air being drawn into the case and not nearly enough leaving the case. you want as much negative pressure inside the case as possible, so hot air is rapidly drawn out. Blowing more cool air into a poorly ventilated case will get you absolutely nowhere, because there is nowhere for the heat to go.

make sure the fans in the back of the case are blowing outward, and the fans in front of the case are blowing into the case. Also make sure that your total # of fans or total CFM of fans is greater removing air from the case than bringing it in. i.e., if you have two outtake fans, two intake fans, and the PSU outtake fan, then great. But say two intakes, one outtake and one PSU outtake you are going to have heat build-up.

also scrap the Vantec slot cooler. They are pretty much useless, imho.

Yeah I really dont know what the deal is I have 3 120 mm Fans 2 exhaust and one intake all around my case there shouldnt be any major heat issues and it only happens with AOE III.. I can play other games and Im golden......

I had the same problem when I played COD2, HL2, BF2, and Lost Coast. It was totally random and unpredictable - all of a sudden my rig would crash and I would get a monitor out of range error. I flashed back to the 11/02 BIOS about two weeks ago and have been playing lots of games with no problems. I would advise you to try the same thing. BTW I'm still running the 81.98 drivers.
