shaned Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 just wanted to know if there would be much difference between the opty 165 stock cooler or anothe model. My cpu idle temps are around 37 overclocked to a 2.6ghz.
Esstee Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 The copper heatpipe opteron cooler is pretty efficient, there are a few cases where people added an 80 - 120mm shroud to it and dropped a 120mm fan on top. The results were pretty amazing to say the least comparable to much more expensive heatpipe heatsinks. Your temps looks good, take into consideration that the internal heat sensor on your motherboard is off by several deg. between 4 and 8c Other than that your temps would be directly attributed to your CPU core voltages. If your on 2.6 @ stock volts then those temps are about corrent. Cool & Quiet plays a major role in your CPU temps as well as thermal throttline. Mine hover around 39-42c at 2.6 - 1.5v This is taken with a calibrated thermal probe, the onboard says 34 - 37c. I have both Cool&Quiet and thermal throttline turned off. Hope this helps
shaned Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Thanks for the reply, can you go into a bit of detail about adding a shroud. Is that like a bracket to fit the 120 on?
jumpman Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 it depends on ambient temps...but any aftermarket cooler [as in any(know brand a.k.a. thermalright, thermaltake, etc)] should be better.
