SpursIndonesia Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Guys, can any of you give me guidance or suggestions in my effort of maximizing the performance of my new VGA card, HIS ATi Radeon X800XT IceQ 2 VIVO ? I mean, as of now, i'm running it @520/560 Core/Mem, which is XT PE speed level. It's running quite well at that speed, the temp is decent (40 C idle, 68 C full load, 30 C room) and i put a 8 cm fan over it. In ATi Tray Tools, it peaked @563/580 artefact free, yet it will freeze in game or bench after a few minutes running. I'm not planning of using other type of cooling solution, cause i think the default one (ATi silencer rev2 from Artic Cooling) is still up to the job, and i'm not aiming any obscure speed that air cooling can't handle. Just some suggestion about fastwrite, sideband adressing, AGP latency, things like that, that will help me achieve a stable OC @550/570 perhaps. Any response would be thankfully appreciated. kitfit1 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Hi Spurs, I would back the the clock down to 550 from 563 and also back the mem down to 570 as well. Ati tool is only a guide and should'nt be taken as gospel, as you discovered. If you keep AGP latency at 32 in the bios you will get better 3d scores and a better gaming experience. Fastwrite's don't really matter nowdays, there were some isuse years ago but it has no effect now. Having said that if you use Omega drivers they are optimized with fastwrite's off. Sideband addressing is on by default and should be left on(don't think you can turn it off anyway)
SpursIndonesia Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 KitFit, Thank you for the suggestion, I'm gonna embrace myself to push the OC up to 550/570. The truth is, i've never benchtested it with serious rigor(say looping 3DM 2001 for a few hours) any core/mem speed combination outside my current stable running set up and the max artefact free OC limit suggested by ATi TT. That's because i'm afraid i'm gonna fry my new hard earned VGA.
kitfit1 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Take it nice and easy Spurs, there's no need to rush it(slowly slowly catchy monkey). I think that 3d03 is probably a better all round initial test. If it freezes in test then the core clock is to high and if it artifacts then the mem is to high. Don't try doing both at the same time, start with the core then the mem.
