MustardTheoRy Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 ok I've read the rules and searched the threads and read the memory sticky but found no answer and of course i've googled it but i wan't your opinions. Also considering the"Playing the latest games" section is obsolete now that doesnt answer either. If i have a ; 2.6 OC is it better to run 9/10 1T - 2.5-3-2-6 @ 236 Mhz or 1/1 1T 3-4-4-8 @ 260 Mhz? So you have slightly tighter timings vs slightly more bandwith
Peanya Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 You'll see a tiny bit more real-world performance with the tighter timings, if you do notice any at all. For gaming, go for the latency, for other apps such as video editing & the like, go for bandwidth.
Fight Game Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Only way you'll ever know is to test yourself. If you're a gamer, I suggest running a new version 3dmark. If you're not into games, maybe one of the other benchmarks. Either way, you'll want to be atleast 8 hrs Prime 95 stable (blend test). And of course the REAL test. The one where you use each setting for awhile and decide for yourself. I'd be willing to bet, that by the numbers, will be within a couple percent, nothing you'll ever feel. Squid1 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Normaly tighter timings are more valuable. For example, BH-5 at 250 MHz 2-2-2-5 is clearly faster than TCCD at 320 MHz 3-4-4-8. However, the first two timings are the only ones that really count, and the 2.5 versus 3 CAS and TRCD one notch better probably won't cut it. Overall the difference in the two settings is too small both in timings and in bandwidth to make a real-world difference. ghettotech Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Links are kina funky...to see full image on imageshack click on it then go back. (you will see what i mean) I recently did this test to prove the point that bandwidth means nothing on another forum (vanguardsoh.com) My findings.... CS:S Video Stress Test 1024x768 6x 16x MAX settings (FPS MAX set to 450) Test 1 265x11 1:1 ratio 265x11 166 ratio (effective ram @208mhz) = 1% decrease in FPS with a 32% (57mhz) drop in ram speed. [EDIT].... here is 200x11 1:1 then someone asked about the low timings like DDR2 has so here are the results ask and you shall receive 11x265 1:1 but timings reduced to 3-7-7-15 200fps vs 228fps 14% loss sandra scores... Bandwidth still high because of the 265mhz
