glug.glug.hic Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I never flashed my bios before, so I tried it for the first time last night. I used DFI's Winflash and I think I may have selected the wrong bios version. When it restarts, I can get into the BIOS but not into Windows. I get the following error: NTLDR missing What did I mess up? Do I simply create a flash floppy with the original BIOS? I'm not sure what version I had - the sticker says: Pheonix Biox D888 (small but i think they are all eights) Award 03/10/05 *the only other version I saw was Pheonix V.600PG Sorry for the newbie question.... jimmil43 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Is there a floppy in your A drive?
glug.glug.hic Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 No. I didn't use the flash from floppy option (which I should have). I used their Winflash program. It's probably something in my BIOS that I didn't notice such as the HD. I will try a few things this evening (in 6 hrs). Thanks all for your comments. Very helpful and I will hopefully have this resolved.
jimmil43 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I get the same error message at work when I try to boot up with a floppy in the A drive. It might help to know this when trying to figure out how to fix your problem. Maybe you need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS. SeanDude05 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I've found that these boards can be picky sometimes about the boot order. As in, when I had CD as first boot device and HD second, if I didn't have a CD in the tray it would refuse to go any further. wevsspot Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 glug.glug, By far the nicest flashing utility I've used in a while is T-Mod's BIOS flash CD. It is virtually goof proof. Create a copy of his CD. Set your optical drive as the first boot device, load the CD and reboot. Select the correct BIOS (he makes this easy). I'd use the 623-1, 2 or 3 and if you're feeling real adventurous try out the 07/04-2bt or 2bta. All of these are decent BIOS's for the Ultra-D. After you flash your BIOS - MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE - you do a full and proper CMOS clear. Reboot and load optimized defaults. Reboot again and adjust appropriate BIOS settings for your hardware i.e. boot order, boot devices, onboard sound, lan etc.
