MiG Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Ok, so i booted up my rig this afternoon, after coming home, only to suprise that my rig wont boot. I've tried clearing the cmos with the jumper, removing the battery, re-applying the HSF, re-mounting the CPU, trying different memory configurations. Everything is as normal, except the computer just wont boot, no signal goes to the monitor, and all 4 LED's stay on. This rig was working fine for 3 months solid, so why now has it decided to pack in ? Thnx. MiG
supraboytt Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I had that problem once. PC wouldnt boot and I didnt do anything to provoke it. I cleared cmos and kept rebooting till it magically started. Worked fine ever since.
MiG Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Lol thats what i hoped, to keep restarting the f'ing thing and it work but that hasnt worked lol. How would i know if anything was dead, without testing other components ? also, are the diagnostic LED's reliable in there readouts, or do they guess ? Cheers. EdLSmith Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 The diagnostic leds are assistive only. Their general meaning is 4 leds system is searching for cpu; 3 leds searching for ram; 2 leds searching for gfx card; 1 led searching for OS and you'l note this is where you hit delete to enter bios. You also get four on a hard no load that requires Clearing CMOS. You can get the with a defective cpu or when the system can not find ram; etc. ect.. The best way to troubleshoot is start with or at some know and perform tests that will help you to isolate the problem to speciic items. I always clear CMOS first with these boards. Usually that clears the problem. Once, I had to reflash my BIOS and a couple od times I had to test memory. Once I had a bent pin on my cpu. A problem in anything can produce errors in misleading areas. Once you have tried the simple, then you have to start work on the complex. Why don't you go to the initial build thread and start checks with that. Report on problems as you go. If you have to start removing to eliminate possible items, just keep track of what has tested good and look at other parts. Patients, that's what keeps the doctor busy.
