gotamd Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I was wondering if The Ultra-D was capable of running 4x1GB RAM (this Corsair specifically) with a Toledo-based Athlon X2 3800+. I'd like to upgrade to this, but I've heard from one person that Corsair said that DFI boards were a bit finicky about running that kind of configuration. I'm only looking to run PC-3200 speeds (this guy who reviews memory and has an Ultra-D but not with the latest BIOS said it may only work at PC-2700 if at all). I know it'll have to run at 2T, but that's okay. So, does anyone know for sure? I don't want to purchase that much memory and then have it not work
LOUISSSSS Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 4gb of memory will actually slow down your performance in most windows applications and i'm sure you've done your reading about windows only supporting up to 3.xgb of ram?

Maybe I should consider that G.Skill then. It does seem to have excellent reviews overall.
blick Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 If you'll go for G.Skill, before buying ask G.Skill Information and Support what they think about your configuration(just to be sure before spending a lot of money) BTW, why do you need 4GB? Graphical applications?
olmari Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 And on top of all if one uses Windows XP x64, 4 GB of ram isn't even close to limit
gotamd Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Yes, I do do CAD work. I might use the 64-bit WinXP, but I'm thinking I'll probably wait for Vista. I just like to buy RAM all at the same time to avoid incompatibilities with revisions and such.
Squid1 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 4gb of memory will actually slow down your performance That's rubbish. The 2T will not hurt you more than 1-3% in most applications and that CPU can easily drive 4 sticks at DDR400. in most windows applications and i'm sure you've done your reading about windows only supporting up to 3.xgb of ram? Windows XP SP2 removed working PAE support which is what you need when you use remapping of the device space occupied RAM area between 3-4 GB to > 4 GB. However, you'll still get a good chunk of memory. And nobody forced you to use that Mickysoft junk
red930 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 That Corsair should work fine. Be sure to just use one stick initially and set CPC to 2T before trying the others. Might also want to memtest each stick individually, since there is twice the chance of getting a bum one. I've been thinking about this upgrade as well...for really no reason but to do it...
