red930 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Ok Ok i recently bought a raptor to external it.. but i guess i was high at the time cause i didnt notice that the external enclosures are all rated at 480mb/s due to the usb 2.0 interface.. does that mean i wasted my cash on a 10k rpm drive? since the data transfer rate is a constant for both sata and ide drives is that a blowoff?? and doesnt sata go at 150mb/s? im feeling a bit high again so sry.. and y is usb faster than sata? sry if im wrong but sata=150mb/s.. does the usb connection speed even have anything to do with the drive write/etc functionality? im confused here.. help plz lol i killed my raptor on accident so i rmaed it.. i dont have much time left till my dads bday (thats wut im gettin him-raptor and a copy of macgyver XD)
tweak50 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 USB is faster than sata for the reason that it only transfers data. A HD has to physically store data, which takes more time than just transferring. Heres and analogy. the time difference between you reading my post, and me writing it, if that makes any sense lol
