ashtray77 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Im thinking of getting these. they arent in the memory guide as of yet because they are fairly new, but i would think they would work just fine. what are your thoughts? http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...oductCode=85209
ashtray77 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I guess the first link doesnt take you right to the memory in question, so here's a link to the manufacturers website. http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memo...el_platinum_xtc
red930 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 So you're going from 4x512MB Corsairs "Value's" to these sticks? I'm not sure if all Platinums are TCCD's or not but it doesn't look bad, you should give them a try. Note:Have you looked up any reviews or benchmarks on overclocking on these memory sticks? WakeUpDead Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Those are the Plat. EL but they have the new heat spreaders on them. I have the Plat. EL and they work great for me, Overclock well and They are OCZ so you get great support and the lifetime warranty. Like I said they are Plat. EL and the XTC is just the new heat spreaders. I would say get them, you will be very happy!
Pyr0 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 the ddr500 plat el kits are supposed to use micron chips
WakeUpDead Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 the ddr500 plat el kits are supposed to use micron chips Well thats good to know! I was looking at the DDR 500.
ashtray77 Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I'm not sure which chips they use, but the timings look the same as the regular platinum EL pc3200 (not rev2) so I would guess they are the same? According to the guide, the regular plat. have TCB3 chips... which i've never heard anything about, good or bad.
johneverd Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 The OCZ Platinum XTC 2 GB KIT is based on Infineon B-die chips, which are rated at 2-3-2 timings at PC-3200. Sadly BH5, TCCD and TCC5 chips won't work on 1GB sticks (so they don't exist), so 512MB is their maximum size. Using 4 x 512MB doesn't allow for 1T on DFI boards, ands it isn't generally stable. If you don't plan on overclocking the RAM past 200MHz then this OCZ Platinum XTC 2GB kit is a great option (due to the tight timings). If you plan to overclock the RAM to 250-280MHz then something based on Samsung UCCC chips (3-4-4 timings at 250MHz) or Infineon C-die chips (3-3-2 timings at 250MHz) would be the better option. Infineon C-die sometime overclock up to 300MHz, but are very expensive. UCCC based sticks are on sale at Newegg right now for under $150 AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...CMP=OTC-B1zrat3 EDIT: Good review of 2GB kits at AT: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2676&p=
