GRAPHICS CARD OVERCLOCKING (Nvidia cards)

Is there any way to stop the 'throttling' of the GPU when you try clock it too high? My mate has an AGP 7600GS, cant clock it over 550 I *think* cause it starts to throttle real bad. No artifacts or anything, just all of sudden the test frame in ATI Tools crawls to about 5FPS.. It doesnt overheat BTW.

I've been fooling around with Rivatuner since I got my VF900-CU today (I love that thing, it's awesome) and was able to get a clock of around 585/1175. I haven't run any 3DMarks yet to make sure it's stable, but is this a pretty good clock for my card? Also, in terms of FPS, what's a good figure to shoot for?

Great guide, by the way. :D

::blinks:: What... is your current video card? LOL just curious.

Oh yeah, I forgot my current sig has my planned upgrades :tooth:

It's an ASUS 6600GT, stock clocks are 500/1000. 585/1170 failed 3DMark05 the second time I ran it though, so I turned it down to 580/1170 and am going to test it as soon as I lap my Tuniq in a few days.

What marks 585/1170 did run though showed a significant improvement over stock clocks. Stock results were as follows:

01SE: 19,616

03: 8,740

05: 3,547

05: 1,497

585/1170 gave me these scores:

01SE: 22,018 (2,402 improvement)

03: 9,943 (roughly 1,200 improvement)

05: FAIL, 2nd time around (first was around 4000 I believe)

06: 1,655 (roughly 160 improvement)

With any luck, lowering the GPU clock to 580 won't make too much of a negative difference in scores while still being stable.
