old_geekster Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Okay, I know this definitely pegs me as the ultimate noob, but I can't find the answer anywhere else. I keep seeing it repeated, "watch for good steppings and then buy that processor". This is why I am asking for your help. How do I find that info? CPDMF Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 If you are buying from a large online retailer for the most part they will not give you the stepping of the CPU. Some of the smaller sites will give you the stepping if you email them.

THunDA Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 This is where I bought my Opty 170.. http://www.flickerdown.com/forums/ Its nice because you get to know what stepping your getting before you order it.. But remember even IF you get one that is clocking good for many people it doesnt mean yours will too.. Overclocking is mainly about luck.. blobby750© Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 If it's an AMD processor can't you read the stepping through the front of the box? Then return it unopened if it's not the one you want.
