red930 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Junior mechanical engineering student at RPI. I'll finish my bachelors within a year, and then probably hang around for my MS. Can't wait to get out and get into some good research. I'm hoping for a job in renewable energy. Egads...maybe then I can make some real money. Tuition is damn expensive, even after scholarships. tweak50 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Currently I'm a student at University of Wisconsin-Stout majoring in Computer Science. I have concentrations in software development and business management and a minor in digital photography. During the school year I work for the university as a student technician, next year i'll be a junior manager. Stout has a campus wide laptop program, so I spend the majority of my days servicing HP 6000, HP 6230 and Mac Power Books. During the summer and over breaks I work for Tyssn Krump as a mill worker(was suppose to be on the IT team this year, but the chose a guy from Tennessee instead, he had something called experience, psh) and I also set up small businesses. Other than that Ive been an assistant manager as a Family Dollar, a kitchen manager at a bar and grill. Product specialist and technician at Circuit City. And I can make one hell of a good latte due to my parents owning a Coffee House. Not as impressive as Ex's, but for only being 18 I consider it a good start. Thraxz Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I'm currently a student at Nevada State College, about to graduate at the end of a semester with a BS in Biology. I'm looking into moving onto a PhD degree in cell/molecular biology at a number of schools. Since I just scored fairly well on the GRE I'm looking at the upper end schools (Berkeley, UVA, etc.) I currently work at the National Park Service for the fee department and am most likely about to move on to an internship with the Nevada Cancer Institute (in the research department.) It's nice to have paid leave and $12+ an hour as a college student with no commitment and a place that works around my schedule. fst h2o Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I am officially a Measurement While Drilling Engineer. I actually go out to the rigs and setup and run some specialized drilling equipment. And as far as college being more fun than work, I disagree. I have done many more things that I've always wanted to do, but couldn't afford as a student now. I'm very happy with my job and love the things that my pay allows me to do.
Cadavermaker Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I am a VHS rewind Recovery Bounty Hunter. I am hired by the local video stores to track down and collect the 50 cent rewind fees of ppl returning their VHS tapes not fully rewound. Not as busy since DVD's came out. I actually do Techical work over the phone for people working on Checkout Counters Either Manufactured by Borroughs Corporation or Royston LLC. Field Techs call me and want to know how to fix the photoelectric controls, Photoeyes or motors and electical diagrams in the checkouts. Half of Wal-Mart Checkouts are manufactured by these companies also all of Meijer, some of Save-A-Lots and on and on. Mostly Boring. I also build computers and fix them. I actually got my 14 son into it and he is building and fixing them for his friends. Whats funny is that sometimes I ask him questions. Make my own beer. Daddyjaxx Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Business Systems Analyst. I work for a wholesale pharmaceutical company testing and implementing changes to our AS/400 systems and training the users how to do the stuff. Travel about 50% of the time, down from 100% a few years ago. Not too shabby for a high school graduate. Started with the company as a delivery driver moved up to supervisor and then lucked out on what turned into this job when they closed the distribution center in Jacksonville where I worked. They offered me a job to continue my employment for 6 months. That was 10 years ago. Been with the company 19 years now.

The last time I saw one was back in 2000 when I left the casion industry. I thought everyone had moved on by now.

Daddyjaxx Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 DAMN! They still use AS/400's? My bad...so used to saying AS/400 in our little group. We actually use iSeries now. We are a rather large company, number 16 in the Fortune 500, so I guess we are a little more up to date.
