3-Pin Power LED Header? (mobo experts requested!)

Recommended Posts

The book shows this for the PWR-LED, and made me wonder "why"? My old board (an MSI) only had a 2-pin.

Am I jumping to conclusions when I think that this 3-pin means I could hook up a dual color LED to it? That it would somehow show Stand-by color and ON color or something?

On page 64 of the downloadable manual, it shows the following:

Theoretically, yes, you could connect a dual-color LED.

wouldn't both colors of the LED always be on or flashing... no way to ever get it to 'swap' fro one LED to the other?

Well Im not to sure about the whole dual color LED and how that would work, but the 3 pin is nice for cases that have a 3 pin connector for the power LED. If your case has a 2 pin connector then you could hook it up to the last 2 pins on the right (positive and ground). On your old board if your case would have only had a 3 pin connector you would have had to modify the connector or try to find an adaptor to connect it to the MB.
