Memory concern

Recommended Posts

I just recently purchased a 1GB stick of G.Skill memory with the intention of getting a second stick. I didn't purchase 2 right away because I was concerned about money being spent, but now I know I can afford to get the 2nd stick as well. What I was wondering is if there's gonna be a problem dual-channeling two separately bought sticks instead of getting a 2x1gb kit. As far as I can tell they are the same memory, so there shouldn't be an issue. The mem modules are the red G.Skill ones you can find on Newegg going for $73.99 apiece. The kit is going for $150.99. Hopefully this post makes some sense. any reply would be appreciated.

If you can validate that you get modules with the same chip, it shouldn't be a problem. A kit does of course guarantee it will work, but separately bought modules of the same kind should work just as good.

:) You should have worried about that before buying the 1st stick.

If it does not work you can always ask G.Skill for a replacement/exchange but it should be ok.

What series/model did you buy? (Linky please ;))
