Overclocking with 4x1GB dim

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I would like to use 4 dims of 1GB (OCZ PC4000) on an Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D DFI with an Opteron 165.

Does someone have tried to do this ?

I know that the memory must be used at 2T instead of 1T but I don't know how mutch it impacts the performance.

I've eared that the overclocking potential is smaller than with 2 dims.

So, I would like to know if I can just reach 210, 250 or 290 MHz.

Where can I find benchs of this or does someone have any advice ?

thanks :D

1. WHY do you need 4gigs of ram?!

2. The difference between 1T and 2T is about 40-70MHz of the ram (depends).

3. NOT a chance to hit 240MHz.

Tested, not recomended! Even 4x512 is a lot a stress for the mem controller.

One IMPORTANT thing is that you can still overclock the CPU while keeping the memory close to the default clock (or some other sweet spot) using memory dividers (180, 166, 150, 133...).

Performance impact in real-life applications is much more significant when increasing the CPU clock then when increasing memory clock. So, just buy, OC and enjoy.
