A.T Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Hi everyone. When I bought the new xfxforce 7800gs the other day i whacked it into the nf3 and all was good. As soon as I went to power down the computer a weird squeek noise came from the motherboard. I changed my motherboard over to my spare one (an asus MB) to see if the problem was the same but it was not. The power down was all normal. Any ideas anyone on how to fix this? Also I tried it in a friends 250gb and it did the same thing.. A loud Squeek noise. Anyway thanks.. AT
Meths Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Did the noise come from the speaker because motherboards gnenerally don't squeak on their own?
albumleaf Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 So the sqeaking is for sure from the motherboard? It could be the chokes?
sailindawg Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 It's probably the fan on the vid card. There are no moving parts on a 250 Gb.

chapas Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 The board does some noise when overclocked. In my case, they were the springs' resonation. It's normal.

I have heard that before, but it was always described as a hum. A little silicon on those round wire wrapped "whatever ya call those things" is said to quiet the resonation. But the poster complained of a squeal on shutdown.
Will nl Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Hmm I have a Squeeking sound too, when i'm in windows and it load tumbnails or unpacking rar files. I think it's my ram or ram bank, cause its gone when I underclock my ram for example when im clocking the Ram to DDR 300 or so. The squeeking gets louder when I let it run faster. Did run Memtest, SuperPi etc to see if my ram is faulty, but it returns without errors. Maybe you have the same thing A. T.......... A.T Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Hi. Definately motherboard guys. As I said i changed mobo over and everything is fine. and I have tested it in two nf3 250gb mobos. Theres a conflict with this card and the mobo.
albumleaf Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 The chokes are the donuts with copper wire wrapped around them to the left of the CPU socket, they squeal generally under higher power usage.
A.T Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 chokes? what is that exactly? and should i be worried that it is squeeling on shutdown? sorry i don't know what chokes is AT
learners permit Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Nothing to worry about as this has been documented by at least 50 posters since I been hangin round the street and not a single problem has come of it. BTW the sound comes from the inductors associated with the PWMIC circuits that make the three phase DC power for the cpu. Simply audible resonations from the coils.
