Stocky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 See Sig for system. The LED's count down fine (maybe wait a bit on the 1st one), but all goes well with the 6800 in, but with the 7800GTX plugged in, the monitor just goes to standby when the Windows startup screen should appear. I guessed that it was a driver issue, considering that the 6800 would work and the 7800GTX not (tried two different cards). So I used DriverCleaner PE, and removed all the nVidia and ATi and tried again with the 7800GTX. The same happened again! What could fix this annoying issue! I have tried all the normal things, like clearing the CMOS, different RAM in different slots etc... The issue is with the 7800GTX (I have tried 3 different ones!) So for some reason the mobo doesn't like them! EDIT: FIX ON POST 14 OF THIS THREAD!
EdLSmith Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The 6800 is Nvidia just as the 7800 so driver was unlikely culprit. Most likely culprit is the 7800. Check that it has all power connected. Does yours require the separate 4 pin at rear of card. Easy to overlook. Double check that it is seated. Do you get 2 Leds? Could be something simple or card could be defective. It happens. I don't think the motherboard really cares about which card it is as long as it is good. It sounds as though you have pretty well eliminated everything. Probably RMA time. Stocky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The 7800GTX is fine, as I have tried THREE different ones in the slot! Yet none of them work, except the 6800! I am currently typing on the Sig machine with the 6800 in place...

This brings me to believe it's the line of Videocards in combination with this board.
Stocky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 NOTE: In BIOS set to 8x 8x 4x Also Tried F8 and Safe Mode - but after writing piles down screen, it just goes blank again. I have also tried a non XFX 7800GTX, but with no luck - the same symptoms. There is clearly a fault here. I'm thinking it can't be driver related if safe mode doesn't work either This must be a motherboard issue. Maybe BIOS revision??? Mord Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Did you plug all power connectors in the board? Which PCI-E slot are you using? Try both of them. Sounds like a power issue, cause 7800GTX consumes a lot more with drivers loaded. PCI-E frequency set to 101?
Stocky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Cheers, just tried that but still nothing Will run over to XFX and see if they have any support forums to help aswell...
Reinvented Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 How would we know it's a bios related problem for the motherboard if you didn't list it per the forum rules? Also...have you tried putting it in the lower slot?
Stocky Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Would have listed it, but how can I if I don't know which one it is?! (been told its the one which is good for high FSB/TCCD, III is it?) Also tried both slots...
Kawasaki 1 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Have you tried the 7800 in another MB to make sure it's not the card itself? Mine works just fine with my SLI-DR.
GonzoDamon Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 I doubt that this helps, but I found it necessary to mention that I have installed an eVGA 7800 GTX into my eXpert with no problem what-so-ever. DID you remember to plug the extra power cord into the video card itself? I overlooked this step the second time I rebuilt my system, and was quite embarassed to come to that realization.
