3500LL Pro and DFI Expert. No dual problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Have just finsihed my first build/rebuild. Swapped my A8N SLI premium out for the DFI SLI Expert. Pretty happy with how every thing went, however real probelms with memory corsair TWINX2048-3500LL Pro.

I have read through some of the threads here, and tried the recommended Angry_Games setup, however the memory will not work in a dual, same colour slot configuration (orange or yellow). Orange just won't post full stop, yellow will, but gives me BSOD, and in the last case, I had a lock up and then on reboot NTLDR is corrupt, can't boot. Had to repair.

In the last thread I've just read, the recommendation is to contact RAMGUY for a RMA. However this RAM has been working a treat in my A8N SLI Premium, which suggests DFI board/Brand of Ram or config is the problem.

I'm in single mode at the moment first two slots furthest from cpu, not sure how that will affect performance, but have work to be getting on with. Here in Thailand memory brands are limited. Kingston, Geil, Corsair. No OCZ or Ballistix. Is GEIL a better option, and if so, what would be good for this board?

Any possible thoughts regarding solving this problem, would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

RLM

ps. Just noticed one other thread where someone mentions that this bios version causes problems. Can I downgrade to 11/02/2005

bump

Sorry to bump, this, but can anyone advise? Would of hoped for atleast someting on a first post.

I'm currently running with only 1 gig here. My cpu temps in Ntune are 23-4 and 48 in Everest. I'm really to starting to think I've cocked up here, and should get back to the A8N Premium board. out the frying pan into the fire.

What memory are you using for real?

2 x Corsair CMX 1024-3500LL Pro PC3200 (1 working)

TWINX2048-3500LL Pro. This comes two to a package 2x1gig supposedly tested to be two memories closely alike for dual channel.

Corsair CMX 1024-3500LL Pro. That is a single stick of 3500LL Pro most likely purchased a stick at the time and not packaged together as having been tested as nearly alike for dual channel configuration.

Not many bought the lighted stuff since it was supposedly developed on the ASUS board you moved from and the lights make it tough to use on DFI boards other than the Expert because the memory with LEDs on top is too tall for use with an XP-90 thermalright HSF. So there will not be many users seen here is my guess.

I think I have tried TWINX2048-3500LL Pro on the original DFI NF4 non-Expert series and it did ok.

Sorry, RGone, get a bit confused by the namings. Thanks for the reply by the way.

The Sticks were bought in a pack of 2. So the individual sticks say cmx 1024-3500LL pro on them, but the packaged product is 2048-3500ll pro.

As per this review. You can check the screen shots

http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/memory/corsair/DDR1/3500ll/

In the one furthest from cpu orange slot they seem to be fine. I've got a similar overclock to premium. 235 x 11 ratio 1:1, and voltage and tweaking to spare. It's just that orangle slot closest to the CPU, that's not playing nice. Machine doesn't boot, and long beeps.

As I say yellow is out of the question. I also found that using two adjacent furthest slots dimm1 A and B in single mode, gave me some success, but very limited for overclocking.

I would certainly be a happy man, if I could get these sticks running together in dual.

Thanks

Adjust your signature to show what you are really running for memory. The dual packed package in other words.

When I get time; will look for the 3500LL Pros. But you could just tweak the memory yourself to work as it likely will. I will have to plug it in and change Dram Configuration as could you to make it work.

RGONE, thanks for your help. not looking to put you out, so sorry for that. Was hoping someone had already experienced similar problems, which i know they have, and found an answer to them.

I'm reading other posts like Grrr... Now it won't boot with 2 sticks of RAM in this case Geil, and I'm starting to wonder whether its a hardware issue with Expert boards.

Have tried a number of Dram setting including I believe your ammended settings for the A_G Setup. Com per clock disable etc.

The A_G Setup on my expert board, wouldn't post and needed to be flashed.

Decent forum though RGone, one of the reasons I've bought a DFI.

Cheers

I can only tell you what mine will do. There are differences from memory sticks to memory sticks and board to board and cpu to cpu. No carved in granite situations for sure. And most cannot sit and tweak the timings to get what is needed. Why? Don't know.

Priming when I went into Word to write down these settings and "still'' priming as I type this in the forum. So I know mine works fine. Took me all of 5mins to setup the Dram Configuration and volts and the whole nine yards that must be changed for this memory, when I moved from OCZ PC4000 EB at 260x11=2860Mhz. Those are the *exact* settings I am using. No more and no less.

AB0 Expert Bios 11/25/05 FX-55 218x11=2398Mhz.

Corsair TwinX2048-3500LL PRO in ORANGE slots.

218Mhz memory speed is Corsair rating.

Priming as I type this up in Word…Nothing to it

so far just set the Dram Configuration and voltages…

You have to remove HSF to get the one stick out.

Hehehehehe. Come on man we can't be bothered with at shett can we? Hehehe. That is like work to me. Hehehee.

Yes, I have loosened these up before and run 245+ before if I remember rightly. I just threw them in just now to run em at stock Corsair speeds for him. I am going on to running something else in a little after prime runs a while for me. Probably going to 4 x 1gig memory configuration so I can load the "P" out of this engineering power supply and see what I see.

TWINX2048-3500LL PRO will fit on SLI-DR & Ultra-D with a XP-90 or a XP-90C,at least on the two boards I have. The only problem (if it is one) You have to remove HSF to get the one stick out. My sticks tap out at 267.

thank you for the chart :)
