Is the G.skill really that good, and am I better off waiting for it.
BlackDragon24 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 They are both really good and use the same chips I believe. OCZ has a better reputation around here because they have reps that post here often.
Guest flashystylez Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 The G.skill has a better reputation on overclocking. I would reccomend trying to find the pc4800 ddr600 like I am using, only thing is its 1 gig. They are really fast dimms, either way both will serve well. I would just reccomend the g.skill as far as overclocking would go. You would go further with faster timings with the G.skill. GOTFrog Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 All I want is good 1GB sticks that will give decent OC in that price range. I picked those cause well OCZ has a real good name and Ive heard really good things about g.skill. Almost anything will be better than What I have now. red930 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 You can get up to 270mhz for a $220 kit. Just throwin that out there. Otherwise you could also choose the Mushkin Redline variant, which i would probably go with as I've used Mushkin for some time now and have loved their products. Otherwise I'd get the G.skill. GOTFrog Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 You can get up to 270mhz for a $220 kit. Just throwin that out there. Dont forget those prices are CDN but what kit would that be, This is something Im having a real hard time to figure, what is good and whatnot.to tell the truth I dont even have a clue how well those xtc module performs. I didnt read alot on them. I used it cause it was same price range and really easy to get, unlike ther g.skill ones.
d3M0n Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 $360 for the G. Skill... I hope you're talking Canadian $$s there! That kit goes for about $200 USD on www.Newegg.com so if that is cheaper for you then you might consider it. That pair is awesome. I have a pair and I can boot up to 280 1:1 (wouldn't recommend it though, risking your Windows system files there), but I can get 260 1:1 Prime95 stable if I tweak the timings some (but with 1T still). Very nice pair for the money! If you want to be able to do 270 or higher 1:1 P95 stable, then I suggest you go with something more expensive, higher quality PC4000 modules such as crucial ballistix either regular or tracer. As far as bang for the buck, the G. Skill ROX! I've heard the OCZ gold are pretty nice too, but I have no experience with them...
