Questions On Dfi Lan Party Boards

Recommended Posts

Im replacing my Chaintech board because im getting post codes on boot ups, and have to take out and insert rams to boot up. Planning on replacing my board, and buying another for my mom&Dads pc build(Theres with my old 6600gt and amd 64 3000+)

What is the difference between these 2 boards:

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Questions:

1. Should I go with the cheaper one for my system specs?

2. Can I still use my pure power 420watt power for this mother, im using a 20-24 pin convertor harness /is 20-24 pin adapters ok?

3. Is my 4 sticks ram compatible with this mothers?

If I must get a different pcu Id like one under $100.00 (link me up with newegg)

The latest bio has 2 files that are the same except the file size

http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bio..._FLAG=A&SITE=US

829,743 bytes 11/14/05

403,495 bytes 11/14/05

These support dual core cpu? Figure I download the biggest one

Extract the self extractor straight to floppy, boot with startup disk and enter

a: AWDFLASH NF4LDBL14.Bin /F

Do You want to Save Bios>>I Hit No

Done?

The Ultra D will work fine for your needs. The Expert has SLI capabilities, and also overclocks a tiny bit better.

Your 4 sticks will work fine with the motherboard, but it's also up to the CPU's memory controller as to how well it'll work.

They'll all support dual core CPU's out of the box now.

As for the PSU's, look into Enermax or Antec - the newer ones with the dual 12V rails. I'd l ink one, but I'm lazy!

Just read on newegg that the board is very particular about memory and that it doesnt work with mushkin?>

QUOTE"Received the board and it looks like a little kiddy board. For starters it is very particular about memory...it would not work with Patriot, Mushkin, OCZ and I had a hell of a time getting it to work with Corsair"

Is this true?My memory is mushkin

Where did you see that the Expert OC's better and how can you be sure that his memory will be ok? :)

Burt

20pin PSUs are not enough for this board, you will need a true 24pin one and it must be at least 480W.

24pin PSU's (ATX v2.1/v2.2) have Dual 12v rails, more power on the +12v rails and extra +5v line and +3.3v line. They are much better for the newer hardware and the DFI boards.

If you wish to have a 100% stable system and be able to OC there is no choice, it must be a true 24pin PSU with a minimum rating of at least 480W.

Your memory is another issue, do you know what chips are on it?

Take a pic or post all the details printed on the chips.

The high end Mushkin memory modules are fine with DFI boards, (ones with Winbond, Samsung and Infineon chips).

You mentioned that you are having problems with your current pc,

Could it be your X-fi sound card?

I wonder if my x-fi is whats giving trouble, I had gotten post code 89 couple days ago on startup, I since put my 2 sticks(1gig) in my upper to slots and it has been working since. I always thought it was ram related till I took out 2 sticks and it happened with only 2 sticks instead of 4.

Post code 89

Assign Irq's to Pci devices

ASsign acpi at top of memory

On 2 of my chips it says PH T0505 PH4d328Y5EH 2tDA0063
