EVGA step-up program

Here's the deal, Two months ago I bought a EVGA 6800gt with the idea of buying a second one later for SLI. I noticed that the 6800gt are hard to find on the web, so I went to the evga web site and noticed that they discontinued that card. I e-mailed them about it and they told me that I qualified for the step up program. ( the step up is where you can exchange your card for a better one, "one time deal. 90 days of purchase" My question is which card scould I get in the 7800 family. thank you.

7800GT for sure. but if u can wait a few more weeks (withn 90 days of course) until the 7900 comes out, then 7800GT's price would be lower, and 7800GTX is just not worth it anymore.

i also wanna step up my 7800GT :) purchased mine at Dec 26. hopefully by March 26th, eVGA will have 7900 series up their site ;)

GTX or GTX 512 if you can afford it. Evga has some and they go for retail at $700 from them. Personally it was by far the best card I ever had and wish I didn't have to get rid of it.

Otherwise I stand by the GTX 256 as a better choice than the GT, its more expensive but you get what you pay for too.

Thank you redbeaver, I have not read the step up policy yet, but I thank it is a one shot deal at no charge? I don't think I can wait that long. Is the 7800 card with 512 mem overkill?

It is a one shot deal yes, you pay exacttly the diffference between their retail cost for the new card and what you paid for your card (assuming you got it from newegg or somebody else reputable) as well as shipping.

The 512 is far superior to the GTX 256 as the GTX 256 is to the GT. Smooth as butter all by itself. It uses faster ram and has a better, more stable core that is also faster, most are capable of 600+/1800+ as opposed to 520ish/1350ish. The extra memory helps too. :)

Hmmmm, whats the differance between the GT and the GTX. Is it core and memory speed only?

4 more pipes too, I believe. (it has more for sure, I just forget how many more, 4 sounds right though)
