6/23 Bios... Q's

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm rather curious... I upgraded to a 90nm Venice (redundant, whoops) and I"m running the 5/24 bios.. is it worth upgrading to the 6/23? Will I get more stability on my overclock? I'm only getting 260x10 right now which is ok.. but not great.

thanks!

You just have to flash it and check. The 4/15 bios seems to work better with my BH5, the 5/04 works great with my TCCD. 6/23 doesn't work as good for me with either memory. A couple things I have found with my Venice is that it doesn't like certain dividers, and other dividers it doesn't like CAS 2.5. On the 180 divider I can run my TCCD up to 265 FSB with a CAS of 2. The core is a totally different animal than the Newcastle/Hammer cores. Try some unorthidox setups and I think you will find a little more in there. I have been to 3.0 SuperPi 32M stable with mine and 2.9 8 hour prime.

Interesting, did your max cpu change with either flash?

Max CPU always stayed the same but max mem speed changed from bios to bios about 10. Memory timings changed quite abit as well. I've been in contact with Blooz1, as he has the same CPU and memory I do, we have been sharing notes and are finding out that nothing is standard. If he tries to run the same setup as me his rig won't even boot and the same happens to my rig if I use his.. Try to keep memory timings tight and CPU speed high.. Comprimise the FSB of the memory before you loosen the timings. With my BH5 in and running 1.5 2 2 4 at 230 it kills 2 2 2 5 at 254.

Yeah baby!

These Venices are fun! I got mine up to 2800 when checkin' out the max CPU, but it was getting flaky at that speed. (I'm runnin' on air..)

I started out with the 6/23 bios, and everything up to 2650 was pretty normal. (SuperPi32m, OCCT 30 min., 8 hrs. Prime stable) Once I get up to 2700, the fun begins - I can game for hours, but no joy with OCCT or Prime so far for me!

A lot of my testing has been done with loose timings, 2.5-4-4-8, 3-4-4-8, but that seemed to make things worse. I've also tried dropping the multi to 9 (300x9) and using a 9/10 and 5/6 divider, but again no joy. As CPDMF said, keep the timings tight. (I've also reflashed back to the TicTac 5/04 bios)

So far I've been using the Mushkin TCC5, but I've still got OCZ VX and Twinmos/Winbond BH-5 to mess with. My next tests will be with my VX and OCZ Booster, probably run the ram tight at around 250, then use a lower multi and a heavier divider, just to see what happens.

I have the same question ,well almost.I have the ram's from my sig.And I can't get them to work 1T in slots 1&2 but I get a higher bandwith no mather the setting. If I put them in 1&3 I can set it to 1T but the bandwidth is decreasing by 300MB/s.Thnx..

Well, you won't take a 300MB/s memory bandwidth hit at 2T I'm pretty sure, so I'd go socket 1 and 2 if it's more stable for you and boost the clocks to compensate. :)
