eg660 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Hey Guys this is my first post here and I just got my motherboard so I'm new into overclocking. Anyway, I read the AMD overclocking guide and immediately tried OCing, I'm still in the first part of determining my max CPU speed (FSB=231x10). Heres my question...I cant get pass 231 FSB even if I increase my voltage. Is it my PSU or my cooling? Another thing...last night my computer was stable at 231 using Occt and semper pi. However today I tried it again and it says its unstable..Is it cooling issue or power? When I was testing it using occt it says in the right which I think is the voltages=> core=1.71(w/out load) 1.77(w/load) ; 3,3V= 3.20(w/out load) 3.18(w/load); 5V= 5(w/out laod) 5.5(with/load); 12V= 11.64(w/out load) 11.39(w/load). I dont know if it is suppose to have a lower voltage. Thanks for anyone who is willing to help me.
Guest FZ1 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 It would help if we knew the temps...having a cheap PSU will undermine your OC efforts for sure. I'd start there.
CPDMF Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Any idea what your temps are at idle and load? A cheap 450 watt PSU won't deliver the amperage on the 12 volt rail needed. Look for something with 20 Amps or better on the 12 volt.. A PSU I have found to work real well with these boards is the FSP Group 450 watt. Newegg has them for 49.99.. EdLSmith Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Now don't worry about it. Whether the voltage increases depends on where the resistances occur in the associated circuits. II have seen tests that reported on Vcore and showed an increse under load. I had not paid attention to other items. Â You have just witnessed the type of thing that makes many of us proffess the value of burn-in. A new component will change a lot during first week or so makimg overclocking difficult. Not always, but usually. That's what makes it interesting. It helps to do the build then run memtest and Prime95 for several days. and then do the OC slowly , running prime at times between sessions. Â I suggest that you go back to stable position and then move forward from there. Have fun. This is normal. Do not expect stabilty at this point. Work toward it, but be prepared to start over many times. GooD LucK!
eg660 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 So is it like burn-in like the first week of use? Here's my temp at idle it is 45C when at load it jumps up to 58-63. My Vcore is 1.71...however it jumps to 1.77 under load. I already bought a new cpu cooler which is the artic cooler 64 pro... is this a good cooler? CPDMF Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Your definately not a victim of "burn in".. Lower your volts. Back off your OC and start all over. No way it should take that much voltage to get to 2.3.. Wait till you get your new cooler.
smolt Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 You show no HD in your sig? if its a sata drive you need to have it in port 3 or
eg660 Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Okay I'll go back to stock settings then bring it up. I'am just following the guide which states that bump up the voltage upto 1.7-1.75 and do increments of 10-15 fsb. So what do you guys think the best thing I can do? Change my PSU and wait for my new cooler before I try overclocking it? Is the newcastle core a good overclocker? I placed my HD to sata 3 should I try putting it to sata 4? smolt Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 no sata 3 is fine 1 & 2 stops you overclock at 235 fsb thats why i asked
lowsidr Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Hey MSMOLT, Â I have my os hd on SATA 1 and another as a mass storage on SATA2, non raid. Does this mean I need to move them 2 3 and 4 to OC over 235? I have g.skills coming in two day's....have put off OC'ing untill then. Didn't know anything about the SATA stuff causing a problem. noahsark1126 Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I have my hd on SATA 1 and I'm at 285x9 and everything seems fine. Maybe I should change this?
smolt Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Yes sata 1 & 2 cause problem when trying to get past 235 fsb. Now let give eg660 his tread back
