My RAM has been pretty stable...while it's not overnight, 4 hours of memtest with each stick and 4 hours together no errors.

This has run PRIME for 3 hours with no errors

Not sure where to tweak. My CPU is only running at 2.41...stock is 2.6...should get a bit higher as well.....but Like I said..at 4x LDT FSB I get some freezes.

The RAM is running at 520..but I have to get the cpu up first then go higher with the RAM...I'm reading the guide but could use a pointer..

Thanks

As angry put it:

no one is really going to be able to help you get past what you can find in teh OC Database at 250 because everyone that went past that had to do so on their own, because they were all taught to read read read and study study study because there's a reason we TEACH you to do things a certain way so you can THINK FOR YOURSELF.

sometimes you guys have no patience to learn anything important when you come asking to be told exactly what to do to get somewhere. We aren't being jerks by not telling you...but here's what happens (and it has happened enough so that we do things the way we do them now)

you ask me 'how do I get 260 out of this memory/cpu? what settings should i put in?'

and i would say 'try x-3-4-z-5.5 settings'

and you would come back and say 'well those didn't work, what else can i try?'

and i would say 'ok try 2-2-6-62x4400+Mhz'

and you would come back and say 'well those didn't work either so now what should I try?'

and I would say 'ok try x-niner multiplied by 42 @ 2603Mhz'

and you would once again come back and say 'well that didn't work I'm getting frustrated that you are not giving me proper settings to achieve my goal'

and so on and so on

and scooby-dooby-doo on

because that is how it worked until we put the OC Guide up and taught everyone everything they needed to know in it...the only thing we couldn't include is pre-paid experience...which is why you have to read it, study it, and try it for yourself until you learn it.

then it goes like this instead:

you come and say 'how can i get 260 out of this?'

and i say 'did you read the OC Guide and study it and practice?'

and you say 'no, but i will' and then you do and you spend 3+ weeks fooling with your rig and finally during week 5 you come back and say something profound like 'so I tried a bunch of settings but I decided that from reading the OC Guide about Max Asynch Latency and Read Preamble that I could get a better idea of certain settings along with a slower Tref and finally maxed out these GX's at 267x10 so thank you for making me read and understand exactly what it was I spent the last 5 weeks doing. I never expected to get x-amount of overclock like this! it was hard, but it was worth every minute, and now I'll know that when other noobs come asking to be led by the hand, I'll know why we don't lead them by the hand and teach them to fend for themselves but with some guidance when they get stuck'

*heh*

Guest Dynamic

Try upping your VCORE a bit to see if that gets raid of the freezes. I remember when i was running 3DMark06 my system would [email protected] w/1.55v but when i gave it 1.59v with 1.45 x 110% it ran the benchmark fine everytime, but was never prime95 stable.

I'm really just trying to get my componetns to run at stock speeds totally stable. The only problem I have been having is when taking everything off auto, keeping everything at STOCK settings. I cannot seem to get my FX60 to run at stock 2.6 without runnin ght fsb at 260...I seem to be missing something in my reading...

Super PI...how do people set the affinity for each cpu? I read this in a thread but I see no option. Prime has an option but not my version of Super PI....and when testing with SuperPi, do you just let it run at 32m till it finishes? I see no test settings and can't an explantion of how to use this program.

I lowered the RAM to 1-2...I misinterpretted this. Now I am trying to see my max CPU, but at 250 it is still under stock even at 10X..it needs 260, which is why I have no idea why LOWBOY is bashing me on the over 250 issue...260 is stock for my cpu. And I don't want to destroy my components guessing that my interpretation of rhte OC guide is correct. Seems like many here don't mind giving a little help to a total noob with this board.

Wasn't bashing at all the quote was from another thread where angry was trying to explain that no one can help you as much as you reading the overclock guide and studying it so YOU know how things work and what you need to try. Even if running at stock many times things need to be tweaked to get the system stable. Many people are here to help on questions but is impossible to tell someone everything they need to know here on forum everyday. That is the reason the build guide and overclocking guide were put together to help people to help themselves. As 90% of the time I could give someone with my memory my settings and they would not work for them. You really need to understand what settings need changed and why, there is a ton of information here on forum to tell you everything you should need. Also please make sig with what you are running now so people have some ideal of what they really dealing with. On PI you have to download 2 seperate PIs in two different folders and set the affinty to each one within task manager.

All I'm not sure of is the juggling of the CPU/LDT/FSB settings. I lowered the ram to 1-2, and have my CPU at 275. Pi is being calculated without error, CPU temp is 38 right now..quicly drops to 29 when done....If PI fails what happens? Does it just stop? My other big problem is voltages...they make me very nervous...got some people up to 1.8v soeme getting fried at 1.65..and so on...I can read till my head hurts, but applying it and dealing with the problerms is tough without anything to fall back on...

Help me by showing what system and exact components were dealing with. Voltages differ with cpu and how far YOU want to take it.Either one of the cpu's shown I would want to stay under 1.5v on air cooling maybe 1.55 but that just me.

Expert Board

FX60

2g OCZ Paltinum4000

p90cpucooler

7800gtx

Enermax 660

WD Raptor 74g

PROBLEM1'What am I looking at with SUPER PI...time to finish the test? LIke right now FSB at 280...took 31 seconds..The guide doesn't say but short of sometype of can't be mistaken failure, is my max CPU...before I run PRime for awhile...the highest it can go at he fastest time to calculate PI? If I go to 290..and the speed says it took 32 secs....1 sec slower, would that mean diminished returns 280 is top FSB speed? Before playing with voltage and such?

My LDT/FSB is 3X..haven't touched this since going up in CPU

I have left eh CPU/FSB at 10x....not sure when to play with this

CPU startupVID is 1.4

CPU VID is 1.35....I haven't touched this either....

What I am doing is raising the FSB, When something gets wacky I will raise the voltage a bit. According to what I read leaving the LDT at 3x is fine...the guide doesn't say much about when to play with this at this stage..

ALSO the CPU/FSB multiplier...should it be left at 10 or should I use this to incease the system...the guide is not specific on this either...

Thanks for any help

290 kicked the temp up from 30 to start to 33...first jump...

All my PI times have been the same despite the FSB.

Running Prime for awhile at 290FSB

Temp up to 42 after 2 passes...

With the above settigns ntune reports my CPUv at 1.45v the core at 1.53v....why is this different than the set amounts?

Pi will stop on error. You can leave ldt/fsb at auto as will self adjust older board would not adjust. With unlocked multi Iwould start at stock when trying to find max cpu ,you can check if want to go higher or lower after knowing the max of memory. Software not accurate go by bios settings.

So to make sure we're on the same page...

....Keep increasing FSB till temp gets to hot, no boot, or Pi fails? Right now I am at 290, temps mid 40's with Prime running on both cores.....SO go to 300..310..whatever...Correct?

....Once problems develop at say..310...back off till problems disappear and all is stable...Correct?

.....Then work on the ram......The once I find a stable Ram I can attempt to increas the FSB multiplier from 10X to 11 or so...Correct?

I know I sound like a moron..but I'm a much better Dr than a computer tech!!

Thanks!

CPU mhz is king so I always try to see what highest cpu mhz is stable and find maximum memory speed that will work with it. CPU is easy part it's getting good memory settings is the hard part. You have searched OC database for settings for you memory.
