Pete_Ire Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Ok, i've seen and read many posts on the subject of ppls machines not getting past 1 red diagnostic led being lit and/or getting either no display signals or hanging at bios startup. I'm afraid i'm here to add to that list of people. I've had this build running for about 4 months now, with some problems along the way, but nothing too unusual it seemed, after having done some research into the problem. Just yesterday however i encountered a sudden and complete shutdown of the machine and on trying to restart it was met with spinning fans but 4 leds lit. I said ok and turned it off leaving it to chill out for a few hours, when i tried starting it again....same thing. Today i've tried many things which i've seen suggested on the forums here ending up with a stripped down board (no drives, usbs attached etc.) and using ex-roadies clear cmos technique. This has brought me to the stage of one led left on, no video signal and intermittent cutting out of the chipset fan, granted i haven't tried clearing cmos for 24 hours yet (currently i'm planning to try for maybe 2 hours) but if anyone has anything they might add advice wise i'd be very grateful. I do try and avoid posting unnecessarily and i hope this isn't regarded as such a post. Thanks in advance for any help. Pete oh btw, my vid card does back up quite close to the chipset fan. case Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 have you tried both your sticks of RAM individually?
Pete_Ire Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 yup, tried both in the top orange slot, i should note that i've also read that some ppl had tried taking the mobo assembly from the case and running it outside it, some say it helped, others not at all, any opinions on this? or am i just getting off the point? ganders75 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 If you get on the advanced search and search on your power supply, you should find this thread. It basically states that there is a cold boot problem with your power supply and the Expert board. I know you aren't running this board - but clearly there is a problem with these units... If you have another PSU that you can try, I'd give that a shot...
Pete_Ire Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 as of right now, i only have an old psu that i'd actually be afraid to try in this machine. So, i guess i'll try the 24 hour cmos clear and failing any improvement go get a new psu( hopefully i can get it exchanged). Unless any1 else has some other suggestions? case Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I dont think reassembly out of the case will make any difference. You should definately try the 24 hour cmos clear, and if you have another rig you could test your components piece by piece in it PS: have u removed your sound card? Pete_Ire Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 ah..i knew there was someting i'd overlooked, its only the karanjan that came with the board, but i'll def try that, thanks for the reminder:)
NordicRX8 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Not sure why people won't believe their own eyes... 1 LED left on, you're probably getting the beep code that corresponds to 1 LED (1 long, 3 short beeps). VIDEO is where you should be looking for your problems. Check your videocard... 1. Make sure the power connections are securely seated on the card. (if it uses one) 2. Remove the videocard and reseat... may even have to apply some pressure against the card while booting up to see if it's a loose PCI-E slot. (I had a loose PCI-E slot after installing the ATI SILENCER on my videocard - had to change slots) 3. Try your card in a different system.... or try a different card in your system. 4. Remove PCI-E card completely and try a PCI video card. Good Luck

RGone Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Most likely answer is already above... And it is not only the Expert board that 'originally' had the problems. RGone...
