Vampire2k5 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Dear All, I`d like to use my 2nd pci-e slot for VGA so i can leave the NB cooler free. Now i have a geforce7800gtx and the end of the card is just over the cooler and the nb temp goes up to 50C in full load. Is there any issue/ performance decrease using the second slot instead the first??? I just replaced the termal pound with AS5. Any suggestion / help ??? Tnx very much Vamp
rebelangel Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 if you are going to use the second pci-e slot you have the put the SLI jumpers into SLI mode this will give both slots 8 lanes instead of 16 and 1. this won't hinder performance and you are free to use a bigger nb heatsink but 50c in full load is already pretty good. Doomz Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Have a look at this thread, there are some benchmarks of 8x vs 16x http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40243 Also you may find that the 7800 does not really effect your temperatures anyway. I tried using an old 2mb PCI card once that was no where near the chipset fan but still got almost the same temperature.
