Questions about new system parts compatibility

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to use these parts together:

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon FX-60

Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin PC3200 RAM (already own)

OCZ Gold GX 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin PC4000 RAM (already own)

BFG 7800GTX OC 512MB (already own)

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW EPS12V 1000W Power Supply

SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2504C 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Thermaltake Tai-Chi VB5001SNA Black/ Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case with liquid cooling system

also I'll be using an X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Sound Card

My first question is specifically, has anyone dealt with that ram and that motherboard together and had issues? I also wanna make sure BFG and DFI get along.

Any questions or comments would be appriciated, I'm going to be building this system offa my current system and selling a lotta the parts I have now in a packaged deal in around a month and some change so no need to rush with the help, but any and all would be great.

Thanks,

Kaitlyn

:eek2:  :eek2: That is one 51(|< 1337 rig!!!! Rediculous... I wish I had that kind of money to sink into a rig... mine has already cost me upwards of $3k, can't imagine what that will cost. Anyway...

As far as compatability goes I'll let the DFI mods field that one cause I'm really not sure, but 2 different kinds of RAM is kinda on the iffy side. The expert might not like that too well. You'd be much better off (for stability purposes) I think going with just one matched pair, and both those pairs look pretty nice. Very nice hardware. I bet you'll have all kinds of fun with that!

Well, the system I have now is nice but I'm selling it and only spending around 800 to 1K to get the new one, so I'm looking forward to it. As for the RAM, I'm probably going to END UP buying another set of OCZ to get 4GBs of it total, but for now I'll either run 2GBs of OCZ or try and run both, but if all else fails, 2 will do for now.

I love my FX-55/Thermaltake Shark/Asus rig but someone willing to pay a large chunk of money for the bulk of it's parts... yeah, allows me to upgrade for 1/4th the cost it took for me to get this system started. I'm hoping to squeeze 3GHz outta that FX-60 like I am outta my FX-55 with a simple BigWaterSE cooling system now.

And yeah, the STARTING cost of my current rig was 2K ;) that's probably 1/2 of what it's worth as far as current value (inside the case only) goes. I also have one of those neato 24" widescreen Dell monitors. They may be expensive but they really are worth it if you can get a Dell card to buy it on ;)

I'm basically trying to get the best Socket 939 system I can build and then be happy with it for a year or two, y'know?

Yeah, I know... Sounds like a good strategy I suppose. Kinda like mine cept I have to work with my budget, lol. I'm not upgrading mine until the next gen of processors (AM2) comes out. And I can't WAIT for the g80s to come out. That will be sweetness!! Oh, and I'm definitely getting one of the new physx cards at the end of the year when they come out (prolly with UT2k7). That thing will make gaming performance go through the ROOF, especially if the new games/drivers support multi-threading like they are supposed to. Anyway, I hope you really enjoy that computer!! Before you know it it will be just like the P2 Gateway my mom just upgraded from!! lol

BTW- R u hot? Hot chicks with sweet rigs = ;) :shake:

05 score - self modded bios, all air

A64 x2 4400+ @ 2676MHz - Evga 7800GTX 256Mb 513+60/1325 -

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1736383

06 score - same bios, all air

same settings -

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=57476

Of course that was also with my ASUS A8N-SLI Premium... I just got this expert mobo, and I'm waiting for my new PSU to see what it can do. Then I'm going to tweak my gfx bios some more... I didn't really spend a great deal of time modding it the last time. I'll post the new scores up at a later date. Once I find the Prime stable max settings and the bench stable max settings for the mem/CPU that is...

How are YOUR scores? ;)

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1742294 ~ my best CPU score ever, not my highest 3DMark05 graphics score... but in the ballpark. ;)

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=109555 ~ Whata loada crap... you only beat me cuz of your CPU score :-P LOL

Yeah, dual core makes a HUGE difference with 06. It is multi threaded. Once you get your FX-60, you'll be kicking the crap out of me... that is until I volt mod my card. Then I'll probably be getting around the same scores as you have there, but I'm gonna wait til I upgrade my gfx or get another cheap GTX to volt mod in case I kill it.

Yeah, the 7900GTX (G71 core) is supposed to be 2x as fast as the 7800GTX (performance wise, not clockspeed). I can't WAIT to see what the G80s will do. That is why I'm waiting to upgrade. I don't want to blow the money on the 7900 when the 8000 will be out with the Physx card and the AM2 platform. I figure I might as well just be happy with what I got and then upgrade all at once.
