Guest Loony Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I was just wondering if anyone still used Download Accelerator and if everyone thinks it's ok still. Or maybe, there is another program out there like/better than it that I should use. TIA...

red930 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The purchased & registered version of DAP is much better than their freeware version. I own the latest (Plus 8) and it works very, very well. On average, I get about 500k (plus or minus 100k) download speeds.

Guest Loony Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Well you could also use it to pause and resume downloads, and it has a download listing thing. Is there anywhere I could get the full version free?
red930 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Pay for it! Well you could also use it to pause and resume downloads, and it has a download listing thing. Is there anywhere I could get the full version free?
red930 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 The only version available for free is the advertisement laden offering they have. Even then, it does not include the 2 higher levels of transfer options. Don't even think about mentioning pirating. As ExRoadie stated, pay for it. More than worth the small fee they charge. Well you could also use it to pause and resume downloads, and it has a download listing thing. Is there anywhere I could get the full version free? Trevor Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Whats so special about this program? Opera can pause and resume downloads. I don't see how this program can speed anything up.
red930 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Have you examined the features of the program? Opera, IE, etc, do not get their downloads from multiple sources or open-up download sessions, up to 10, such as DAP does. So let's say you want to download a very large file, such as a demo or a video, from a website. With the browsers, you are only given one choice: the originating website. With DAP, it seeks out other hosts to download the file from and combines the file into one monolithic output file from those other sources. Additionaly, DAP makes use of all available bandwidth to download the multiple source file from. That is what makes the program special. Whats so special about this program? Opera can pause and resume downloads. I don't see how this program can speed anything up.
Trevor Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 But you'd only benifit from that if your downloading from a slow site or you have a 15-30mb connection. The only thing I see dial-up can benifit from is resuming your download when you get disconnected.
Guest Milkshake Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Get-Right is a great download program, accelerates downloads (can go faster by splitting up 1 download and downloading 4 pieces from the site). pauses, resumes etc.. good stuff
red930 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 And with that statement you are mistaken. DAP can assist those who are on dial-up by downloading from multiple sources while maintaining a higher input than what is realized from a single download source without it. Do the research. If you are having difficulty wording your search, let me know. I will provide you with the terminology which will allow you to see the results dial-up bound people are receiving by using DAP, or a similar program. But you'd only benifit from that if your downloading from a slow site or you have a 15-30mb connection. The only thing I see dial-up can benifit from is resuming your download when you get disconnected.
