This will be a first time build for me.. I know I can follow all the instructions ok, but want to make sure 100% everything i'm ordering should be compatible with the expert board.. I chose expert over the ultra-D for two reasons.. 1) I hear the power handling is better, and 2) I might go sli later on. So questions are.. 1) this build should work with expert ok? 2) Do I need to order any other cables? like the hdd is oem.. would I need to order sata 2 cables? or will the expert have them? 3) This PSU is listed as the best for expert boards.. This really is a nice power supply? It will handle the overclocks well? 4) I know read read read is the best policy, and I plan to, but any other advice before I take this road? Thanks a lot guys, i'm just waiting on replies here before I hit the order button!
EdLSmith Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 That is a nice case but the Stacker is better for air and for mod to Watercool. The space in a full tower seems wasted but you can get around in it. You can get airflow where you need it. If you are intent on OCing and game playing then any way to reduce teemps is priority one. The chipset, PWMIC, GPU and CPU are going to be furnaces as heat sources. Do not forget the Floppy drive, I know you seldom need it but that one time. Make sure you have a PSD2 Keyboard and Mouse. There will come a time when you'll have to have it. There is no official support at DFI for 939 Opterons. There will be some problems such as BIOS support specific to the Opteron. You'll find that sometimes there will be non-responsive memory dividers with the Opteron. You laidut a nice rig. Welcome. If you need assistance just yell. Don't be afraid to PM the Monitors, they are just here for us.

palehorse Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 system looks damn good, and everything looks fine! just make sure you follow the initial-build guide in the stickies, and also make sure that the last thing you install is the Xfi soundcard, AFTER everything else is stable! You may also look into the Zalman 9500 or Thermalright SI-120 for your HSF solution rather than the 7700, but that's up to you and how you have interpreted the zillions of online comparisons and reviews. please be sure to stop by and post your results, EVEN IF the whole system works great! (positive posts are always welcome!) GL!
lowsidr Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Newegg rocks but if you havent shopped around you might be spending more than you need to, For example an OCS powerstream 520 is $25.00 less at Monarch. Nice selection of components....you'll be fine.

I saved a bundle just by shopping around! I was even able to pick the exact stepping I wanted for my Opty by going through Dave Graham instead of the large retailers... GOOD STUFF!
