Slingn Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 OK, I've read the guides and have just started to oc my system. So far I've changed the multi to 10, upped the bus speed to my rams rated speed of 250, and raised the vcore to 1.25X113% ( 1.41, I did get a prime error at the standard 1.4volts, but the extra .1 seems to have solved that.) I'm running the ram at default timings of 3-4-3-8 @ its stock 2.6 volts I've left the other settings on auto if available. Everything seems stable, i've gotten no errors in about an hour of memtest, and about 3 hours of prime X2 with these settings. I plan on running prime overnight, so i'l see how that goes. The ram should be fine as its only running at it rated speed, but i'll run an overnight memtest too sometime over the next couple days. So far my temps seem fine ( 47C after the 3 hours of prime) but it is fairly cold today and I've got a feeling as the weather warms, so will my cpu. SO, where should i go from here? The ram caps out at about 260, but should i consider trying to lower the speed, tighten the timings, and use a divider, or just go up to the max bus speed for the ram and perhaps lower the multi again. From what I’ve read here, it seems to be all about cpu mhz and doesn't matter how you get there, but I’ve always been told to run 1:1 with as tight timings as you can get. Has that opinion changed? I have one other question, regarding N-tune. I've made all my changes in bios, not in the n-tune software, but n-tune always shows my vcore @ 1.45 volts. No matter what it’s set to in bios, it shows 1.45. Is this normal? Are there issues with the n-tune util? Is there another program i can use to monitor temps and volts. MM5 does not seem to work with this board. Thanks, this is a very helpful forum.
Burky Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 For the ram, try upping the voltage on it a bit, maybe up to 2.8v if you want to stay safe. Else stick a divider on it, then tighten up the timings a bit. Don't worry about hitting the max speed, as tightening the timings instead will improve the system pretty much the same. My clcok only allows me to do 260mhz or 290mhz with my ram, so I use 260mhz, then run 3-4-3-6 on the timings, instead of 3-4-4-8 and it works great. Remember cpu mhz is what counts, so if it means lowering the speed of the ram, do it. As for n-tune, totally ignore it, those programs are bad news from the start. Get speedfan or cpu-z, and that will give you correct readings (always 0.03v lower than set in the bios).
