Treebeard1337 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Ok, so last night I bought myself an x1900xt, should be arriving here sometime soon. What I need to know are some detailed instructions on how to best install this card as I have never installed any computer hard ware on my own before. I had issues with my previous cards and I really, really want to make sure I get this thing installed right. So if any of you guys would be generous enough to make a set of instructions and advice I would love to learn how to get this thing in without a hassle. Keep in mind also that I’m basically a computer novice although I do know a moderate amount about windows software and basic computer functions in general, just not that much. If it matters my current GPU setup is a x800 crossfire, so ill be removing those to put the new card in. Thanks

Kirbs Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Not a lot to it really. 1st - take out the old cards (you can do this now to save time when the x1900 arrives). 2nd - Put the x1900 in slot 1 (that's the one nearest to the CPU). 3rd - connect the PCI-e power cable to the x1900 and switch on. You should install the latest drivers (6.1) before you start any of the above. Have fun.
Guest Dynamic Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If you have any problems with the 6.1 Catalyst drivers from the ATI.com site, try the CD that comes with your video card package instead. First you need to uninstall your drivers either with the normal routine "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" or download Driver Heaven Pro from the net and use that for removing your ATI DRIVERS. Also i hope a DVI to DB15 connector is included with your package if you still have an LCD/CRT monitor that only has the regular monitor cable since this new video card has dual DVI connectors in the back, if you haven't noticed. Also if you still experience drivers issues, you'll have to wait for the 6.2 Catalyst which should be arriving shortly, around the 10th or so.....good luck! Note: Also i hope you are aware if you install any new CATALYST Drivers you'll need .NET FRAMEWORKS 1.1 installl before hand, here is a nice guide to read..... http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html
