ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I've Overclocked my cpu to 2.75 Ghz and my motherboad chipset hits 44-45 degreeas on full load. What is the max? I need to know what I need to look out for. What temps do I need to saty around?
lowboy Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Most like to stay under 50c but can go to 70c the one to worry about is cpu temp.
divided Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 general rule of thumb for air cooling is cpu less than 50c chipset will work without issue up to 75c most keep at ~50c videocard less than 80c although most are rated up to 100c
ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Well I had my Nvidia monitor going and it was giving the temps of the cpu, chipset and system. When I started running 3Dmark03 the alarm on my board went off. looking at the nvidia monitor it had the chipset number in red and flashing at 44 degrees. i just wanted to know what was up with that
ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Just an update: I was able to lower the vcore on my cpu so it is operating at a cooler range but on load it gets as high as 51C but may fluctuate to lower speeds in game. Is that still a safe temp? On most things it stays at 48C.
solgae1784 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Max tolerable temps for A64 are known to be 65C. 50~55C @ load is what I'd consider a warning to get better cooling.
ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 How long will the CPU last if I have it at 51Csome of the time and 44C the rest of the time? The top my cpu reaches in Doom III is 48C, but in Half Life II it hits 51C. I really want to know if it is ok this way. I am going to be putting in some Artic Silver 5 on my cpu to cool it better but that will be another week. In the mean time I don't want to blow up my machine, so is 51C ok for now? ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Or is 51 C too much to ask?
divided Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 no one can say for sure how long ANY cpu will last under ANY circumstance. but 51c is NOT going to kill it. most prefer ~50c to be the highest *acceptable* temps. 51c is fine. ebonyblade Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The question really comes down to whether 2.8Ghz is worth 51C. How many would recommend it? I have a Tt Blue Orb II cooling it at the moment too.
