Questions of the day!

Recommended Posts

1-Can't find the memtest faq...so..is the one in BIOS suitable? Is this what you all use? Does it just check RAM or is it checking the CPU caches as well?

2-Have 1 stick of OCZ 4000 running as stable as it seems at the moment. IN CPU=Z it labels the farthest from the cpu orange as slot 3, the MB has it as 2...does this matter? I couldn't boot with 1 in the closest orange slot. I want to run the other stick alone for a few hours to see it is error free. The first stick has been for 4 hours..if that's what I'm testing with the BIOS memtest without changing anything.

3-AM running with the optomized settings for the OCZ 4000, but some settings I have questions about. Treid to read and figure it out but am confused on the Cpu voltage ones. The OPTOMIZED settings have CPU voltage at 1.3v..is this CPU VID CONTROL? IF so what is CPU VID STARTUP VALUE? And should they be the same? WHich whould I set to 1.3v...I set both...

4=DRAM FREQ SET. There's nothing in the settings for this..I left it at by SPD value..are these the multipliers? My FSB bus is set to 250

WRIRE CAS LATENCY...no setting for this in the OCZ set..I left it at auto...this OK?

I may figure a few of these out by rereading for the 5th time...but figured someone may get through to me faster!!

LOL

Thanks

1. Just like any normal memtest program just tests the ram. Veyy useful so you don't need a disk, works just fine, keep in mind just because overclocked ram passes memtest okay doesn't mean its windows okay-need to run prime for that.

2. Being unable to boot in the closer slot happens sometimes. Usually what you do then is boot off the other slots and manually enter in your timings and voltages-then you should be able to put the second stick in. Don't worry about the numbering of the slots.

3. CPU VID control is your CPU voltage (constant voltage while your computer is on) startup value is the voltage when your computer first boots, I always leave that to auto and haven't had a problem. For CPU VID I always put 1.4 in there, just to be sure I'm good to go. :)

4. Yeah thats the divider, wouldn't recommend putting that any higher than 1:1. but lower values are very useful.

Any questions on timings and whatnot refer to this.

READ it, it'll make your life complete.

Edit: RyderOCZ has his multiplier at only 8x (8x250=2000) for his opteron, you can at LEAST put yours on 10x to hit 2500 (if you want to keep the same settings he is using...), anything higher will require some more knowledge from the holy grail linked above.

That FX could (potentially) be capable of over 3.0GHz, and that ram should easily run over 270+.

Edit 2: BTW, thinking of selling that 4800+? I'm only interested if its a good clocker, but yeah...

Thankyou!! Lots of info form the threads all at once..then the terminology is sometimes sightly different...and I don't want anything to blow!! LOL

The 4800 is going to stay as a server for my practice once I get this rig fully functional and stable...that is IF I get this rig.....

The other stick tested for 5 hours with no errors, so tonight they both go in. If that works then we'll attempt prime after that....and the multiplier will go up anyways to stock speeds. I figured the different cpu was the difference, but didn't want to be doing anything on my own yet....lack of confidence you know!

Thanks again
