My sata disk response is slower with my new comp?

Recommended Posts

Hello to everybody.

I've bought some new hardware but have kept the same disk (Maxtor 160GB Sata) which performed very well with the old system. However with this mobo, it is responging very badly, I notice it when I use the PC.

Also now Win XP "sees" the disk like a plug and play device and I odnt think thats good

I didnt use any special drivers, cause I didnt find them. So im using win xp default drivers atm.

Pls help me solve this problem.

P.S.

I have changed the cable, too. I will try if thats the problem, but i dont think it is

Well at least it is working many maxtors have issues you can flash the bios I hear and fix the problem- usually it is a dissapearing drive not loss of performance. Did you install on a fresh partition? If not that can cause issues start with defragment if that doesnt work and your drive is recognised properly consider a fresh windows install on a clean partition. See the HD benchmark stickie in the off topic section to compair speeds the Nvidia has a very good HD controller.

Oops. I tested the cable now. And it really was the cable's fault!

So i just have to say that DFI gives some SUCKY cables! Works like a charm with my old cable and now im happy :)

Sorry cause i didnt test first and then ask, but maybe someone will have the same problem I had :)

Although i have solved the problem, im grateful to for your fast reply, Joe.

Thx.

Just curious, in your original post you managed to induce a "driver" statement

mixed with a hardware statement mixed in the problem statement. The driver

statement triggers operating system problems, a can of worms. Stating Maxtor

as your drive triggers another can of worms. Stating dfi cables SUCK triggers

another can of worms.

For the armies out there who use dfi cables, would care to restate that dfi cables

don't suck. Just for grins....
