netddos Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Do I have to cut or trim the base of Evercool VC-RE cooler to fit in my DFI Ultra D board? I just wanted to make sure before I make my purchase.. Thanks..

netddos Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 No. -pickles No as in no dremaling required? So it'll fit with some force applied to it right? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpo...2&postcount=106 what's that about? ExtraPickles Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 No, you do not have to mod the base, it's a direct fit... do a search there's a zillion threads on installing one. That post on XS is about the Spire which does require 10 seconds of Dremelling. -pickles

Uplink Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Its a simple install with time and the VC-RE and RF are the same thing only the RF comes with ram syncs with i use for the pwmic
ReelFiles Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 the pins have to be angled inwards on the VC-RE in order to fit on my board. Tight fit but it's definately on there good, dropped 15 degrees of my temps, with the Silver Grease that came with it.
bp1019 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Wow, so the evercool fan makes a big difference? I have had people say it only made a couple degrees difference and wasn't worth the hassle. Anyone else replace it and get a major drop in chipset temps?
BrIONwoshMunky Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Mine were a bit lower, by only a handful of degrees perhaps maybe 3-5. I attribute that to installation technician error... Considering I installed it myself to replace the DFI rock grinder, I can't complain. It doesn't get any hotter, and my case is infinately quieter. jguizar Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Wow, so the evercool fan makes a big difference? I have had people say it only made a couple degrees difference and wasn't worth the hassle. Anyone else replace it and get a major drop in chipset temps? I was getting temps around 42C idle. I'm getting temps of 32-33C idle with the VC-RE. Some of that is probably from the cooler itself, but I think the major contributor was the TIM. I didn't try, but it wouldn't surprise me if removing the TIM from the stock chipset cooler and applying AS5 or ceramique or similar dropped temps 5 degrees or so. Robster Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I put as5 on my stock dfi heatsink and I get 42 idle and 49 load. Still going to get a evercool though.
