LP NF2B -- installing stock NB heatsink on the SB?

hi, later today i'm going to replace the stock northbridge heatsink with a thermalright nb-1 cooler. i want to also replace the southbridge heatsink since i'm going to be pumping 1.8v to the chipset pretty much for as long as the board will last me. will the stock northbridge heatsink fit onto the southbridge without interfering with any board components? it looks to me like it might be too large.

Haven't looked to see if it will fit without modding the NB heatsink.

Personally, I would cut the NB heatsink down to size so it would be

a better fit on the SB and with less of an overhang on the sides.

I've heard of others doing that with the stock NB heatsink, but I'm

unsure if they modded the NB heatsink at all or just mounted it on

there without modding it.

Kitfit, how did you get your 850 up to 600 on the core? Nice clock

I fitted an Artic silencer and started clocking. Must admit i was a bit surprised it got to 600, i was at 585 for a while and left it. Got bored one day and had another go. The mem won't go any higher though.

I found that a 40mm fan glued onto the stock southbridge heatsink cools it down nicely. Cool to touch, you can't ask any more than that.

you're running 1.8v too, sounds like the way to go. do you have a pic of the fan mounted?

Hi, I did some switching around of my heatsinks over a year ago, and my board is still running, great temps, and always overclocked! I removed the stock NB heatsink and replaced that with a fanless stock AMD 2000+ aluminum heatsink with the adhesive thermal grease from Arctic Silver. Next, I put a Vantec copper cooler w/ fan on the Southbridge. The stock NB cooler I ended up using in another computer. The SB cooler ended up on my SATA or maybe the IDE controller chip, its right next to the 4 SATA ports. I got a bunch of MOSFET heatsinks and placed them on all those little voltage regulating chips (I dont believe thats the correct term at all, but I did just wake up, I always come here first haha) Temps on the mobo always read under 80F, usually around 74-75 F

If your into overclocking, cooling of course is a must, and must be well considered and thought out. Even 1 degree temp changes can make a difference and can increase stability.

Actually Benbaked i'm running 1.9v through my northbridge the 1.8v is my cpu, it's the only way i can force 1t on my ram at 250fsb. Sorry i don't have any pics, but the fan is just Superglued to the southbridge heatsink. Link to the fan i used http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...YS_Tech_60.html

Is superglue safe to use? And how good is it with keeping the heatsink in contact with the actual chip? I've used Arctic Silver's adhesive thermal paste, worked great (been on for over a year and still sticks perfect, transfers heat wonderfully) and keeps the contact between the heatsink and chip for best heat transfer.

The Superglue is used to glue the fan to the heatsink, not the heatsink to the southbridge :D Mind you did only just wake up TheJakeyl88 :) I used Artic Silver between the heatsink an southbridge as well, does a good job.

Yes, that was an early morning for me! My mistake! If only my common sense worked right when I woke up... Or maybe I shouldn't be rushing on my computer in the morning and try to go through PC forums, but it makes me feel like I stay in touch with the world
